Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

With some luck I now have 3 pseudepiplatys annulatus fry appearing in a small tub floating in my tank. I had stripped I thought about 30 eggs from a clump of moss was my yield but as the eggs were probably laid over a few weeks I guess more may appear soon, so next steps?
The oldest fry is 8 days old and youngest is 3 - at what stage should I start putting the bigger and older fry into another small tub to prevent them eating their newest siblings?
Can I put some infusoria from a culture in now as well?
At what stage is it best to start feeding newly hatched bbs?

Andrew,
I know Platty and Xeon have both successfully bred and reared these - not certain, but Derek may have too. When I tried breeding them years ago before coming to Ireland I was never able to give them correct water conditions and failed to ever get any eggs! (mind you, that was with wilds, I would guess tank-bred strains would be a little easier so might try again - one of these days).

As ever, I would suggest sending them PMs.

these fish are easy to raise if done properly. they will only feed from the surface for the first few weeks and are very tiny but they grow quickly if fed correctly.
if they are not fed correctly they will be weak and sickly.
best food for these and just about any other species is newly hatched brineshrimp.
john is correct in saying they were difficult to even keep alive never mind breed in the past but the current strains are simplicity itself. i got mine from donald (killikid) who is the leading man for killies in ireland as he has specialised in killies for at least 20 years.
john i have about 50 or so clown fry at the moment and i will keep some for you, should be adult size in about a month.

ps if you read this donald, i am also still keeping and breeding the marmoratus i got from you. (stunners)

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

Thanks John & Derek
I got mine from Donald too, will get some additional infusoria and bbs into them during the week and we can maybe have a further chat when we next meet about growth rates etc

Thanks Derek,
I look forward to trying again with a better water supply and stronger, more established fish.
