Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

and so it starts ( AGAIN )

ok so the angels are in the section on the laft of the tank as you look at it ..... the intake for the filter is now covered with a foam cover in case things work out .

this pair have spawned quite regularly recently and have even gotten a batch to free swimmers , but unfortunately it happened to be the night before i went on my recent holiday .

here's hoping this time .

Hmm. is the secret to getting them to spawn in that Brown Thomas bag on top of the tank?

Black silk sheets or something

Best of luck with them, they look like fine angels.

damn , my secret is out . The brown thomas bag contains the liquid viagra that i have been workin on for the past few months . Just hoping they hatch this time and that i get a better success than last time . I flew out on hols to vegas the day after they became free swimming the last time so i'm afraid mr. External filter had the last laugh . Latest news is that i woke up this morning and not one egg had turned white over night . Hate getting my hopes up at times like these but can't help hoping . Cheers again for the comments guys . I'll keep the updates coming

almost forgot to mention my other secret . Alot of forum members will tell you that surface agitation in your tank is a must have , and although the common everyday air stone is a great way of achieving this , i use a different method . A small waterproof speaker lowered into the tank , just before lights out , with the unmistakeable bass tones of the great barry white playing thru it . If barry doesn't get the job done , then nothing will .

Ok guys i aint the best person in the world for keepin the updates coming i guess , but unfortunately the spawn mentioned above , kinda disappeared on the third morning after being laid .

On the upside though i have found approximately 30 ( so far ) juvenille asassin snails crawling around the tank so i guess something's goin right .

Now comes the reason for tonight's update ... Came in from work about 20 minutes ago . Kinda guessed the angels were ready to spawn again , just by watching their behaviour over the past day or two .

Well i was correct ...... but wait till ya see where they decided to do it

fried eggs anyone ??????

get a lend of one for a few days. it would be a bad idea to leave the tank unheated as angels are warmth loving fish.

Well day two in the big brother tank and despite the best efforts of my angels to make things difficult for me , i unplugged the heater and replaced it with two spares which i found . The eggs are all still there and lookin healthy this morning . The parents are dfending their spawn quite vigorously and also fanning them in turn . The introduction of a small group Of corys lastweek has given them something to defend against this time around so hopefully they won't loose interest and abandon the eggs like they have done on the past two occasions . Here's hoping that this time around i will get them to hatching stage !!!
