Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I noticed that there are patches of white fuzzy mold like stuff on the lid of my fish tank is it anything i should worrie about? i do a water change about two times a week and keep the tank clean. Is it from the water when i am doing the water change or is it fish food that does not fall into the tank.

More than likely its food. You should be able to see the food tru it.
Dont let the fish eat it.
Take the lid away from the tank and wash it off.
Was the tank new or used or an existing tank that it started to grow on ?

All my tanks are second hand and it happens on all three tanks but I only notice the growth after a day or two from a water change.
It's very small white hair like u see growing on bread when it's gone bad. I keep the tanks very clean and I am very carefull with the food so I don't think it is from the food.Has this happened to anyone else ?

Thanks for the advice can I get online or where is the best place to buy it.
Is it the conditioner and water that's causing the white fuzzy mold ?

Didnt know tesco had any water conditioner ?
Could it be crystals or residue of some sort ?
If your only getting it a day or two after changes, then its fairly pinpointed
as you feed daily.
Do you fill at the one spot and get the stuff in the same area ?

You can pick-up Easylife online, good deals on bigger bottles but p&p might go up with the weight so you'll need to balance it. Probably as well going to a Sponsor or your LFS to buy it.
I use Prime, which is fairly concentrated. I have to pipette the amount for each bucket.

Sorry I was working nights so couldn't get my hand on the bottle yes tesco sell bottles at €5 for treats of 250L 125ml bottle of Neptune tap water safe. It happens in my three tanks and when I fill the water I use the same place so I don't disturbed ornaments and stones. When I feed the fish I spread the food only in the cold water tank because the filter does not have a good flow coming from it. The other two get the food in the same spot. I will look at the lfs and see what price for a new bottle is there any difference with conditioner or does it all do the one job?

I get this from time to time on one of my tanks. Pretty sure its from little bits of flake food that get stuck to the lid during feeding. Its like bread mould?
Ive gotten into the habit of taking off the lid during water changes and giving it a wipe. Hasnt come back since ive started doing this.

Yes but by volume, Prime is FAR more economical. Its more expensive but lasts 10x Longer.
