Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all. Purchased some fish from LFS and within 2 weeks they are all riddled with whitespot. I had no no issues with whitespot in the past, ever. Is it a case of tough luck for not having my own quarantine tank? Or should i speak to LFS about it?

Tough , yes but quarantine is the only way, there is no point in complaining if it manifests itself weeks after you get them as the shop would have done nothing wrong, stress, a change of environment ie. water perams etc could cause an outbreak, just bad luck.
I use Api Super ick, it works in 2 days and I had the worst White spot ever to attack tetras, huge spots and practically covering the fish.

Best of luck.

Kev.

Turn up the temperature during treatment to about 27 degrees..It speeds up the icks life cycle and hence gives the medicine a better chance of working..also gravel vac thoroughly throughout the treatment...In future quarantine for 4 weeks is the way to go

I would say push the temp towards 30c if your fish can take it,id also add an airstone when these temps are being used.as the lads have said try the ich treatments exactly as it says on the instructions, careful if you.have corys or scaleless fish who will only take half dosage usually. Hopefully it will pass shortly.Read up on the lifecycle of ich and you will understand the reason for higher temps etc..Id an outbreak lately and it was so hard to shift but thankfully whitespot is usually easy to treat and resolve so mine was the exception rather than the norm.

Id the same problem Alan and the cardinals are v prone to it.ive noticed it starting to return lately also bit just on the cardinals. The water conditions have been kept perfect but this strain of whitespot thats about is rather strong and seems difficult to shift.Ive not started treating again yet but if it increases i will have to. I used two different types of whitespot treatment last time and both struggled to remove it.i lost a good few fish from it also.
The strain of whitespot i got is nasty and im hoping im not in for a repeat of that again.hence why i was wondering if this super ick stuff could be found in ireland!

I might remove the cardinals if this continues as I can't keep medicating the tank
