Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Some problems with an Angel fish!

Hi everybody!

I have got an Angel fish in my 60l aquarium for a week now.
I have also 2 swordtails,2 mollies, 1 bala shark,1 guppy.

The problem with this angel is that when I give flakes he doesn't eat anything with the vegetable food is the same story. He seems to eat only frozen bloodworms he likes them a lot.In the different web pages that I have seen it says that the angel eats almost every kind of food, but this doesn't seem to be true.I give to him every 2-3 days frozen bloodworm.

What kind of food should I give him or i should feed him more often with the bloodworms?

The other strange thing with this angel is that sometimes he has plain color but sometimes he gets the black stripes. He is aprox.7-8cm.

The shop seller told me that he will get the black stripes when he will grow.

Is this true?

thanks for your helpfull advices!

Neki.

let him settle for a while then he will eat everything. do not feed too much bloodworm, use it as a treat food only

Hi Neki,
60 l is a bit on the small side for an angel.

Apart from that he will eat flake if nothing else is available. Just let it go hungry for a couple of days. Once they only eat bloodworm they are like junkies.

the missing black stripes is a sign of stress, let him settle and the stripes will appear

Just another quick point to add,
Angels aren't really solitary fish, even one more might help, it could even be that being alone is causing the stress which in turn is causing the blackness of the stripes to fade.
Even though your tank is a little on the small size I would suggest you try to get another Angel of a similar size but since your fish has been in its new home a week now I would say the best way to introduce another would be to do it after not only the tank light is switched off but when you turn off the room light too, this should give the newcomer a chance to adjust to its new surroundings (even though it will be pitch dark) without getting any real attention from the established fish...hopefully that should do the trick.

Another cause for stress with Angels is if there are no plants or other 'decor' for them to retreat into - do you have plants?

Otherwise just follow the other advice, it should come right once it settles in.

Let us know how things go.

Hey Neki,
My angelfish would normally eat the flake-food so as the guys suggested leave off the bloodworm and try the flaked stuff then.

With regards to the black stripes, my angel fish would lose his black stripes when the light was off and if he was stressed. Maybe worth testing the water just in case that is the problem? I have always kept my angelfish in pairs too, they seem happier that way! :D

Hope he's feeling stripier soon...

Hi,

Have you got an angel and a bala shark in a 60l tank? As said before, the 60l is way to small for the angel, nevermind both of them.

Regards,

Ken.

As Ken says, get rid of the Shark - I'm a bit surprised that isn't showing signs of stress as they, too, aren't a solitary fish preferring to be in shoals as they would be in the wild.
