Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Wendy.

It sounds like an extreme case. Wendy you live in the land of opportunity so you can probably get you hand on anything. I will send you the Flubenol but I don`t know how long it will take to get to you.

Heres what I would do. Use Potasium Permanganate on the tank.
You can get it from your local chemist and it will probably be free. This will kill the external worms.
I cannot remember the correct dosage but I will look into it for you tonight. If you have never used it before the wait til I get the correct
dosage or somebody here will post the correct dosage for you. I won`t offer a guess as it can be lethal.
It can be neutralised by
dripping Hydrogen peroxide in the tank until it loses its reddish colour.

We will also have to deworm the fish. Can you get you hands on Praziquantel. 2Mg per litre and leave for a few days before doing a water change.
Make sure you do a 100% w/c before adding the Praziquantal.
This is fairly cheap in the states and the dosage is 2mg per litre or 8mg per 1 usg.
PP will kill your filther so personally I would place the fish in a different tankafter the pp treatment and empty the pp tank.
Use gloves and a mask if possible.

Finally I would feed the fish a piperaazine based food until the worms are gone.

Sorry that sounded a little mixed up but my pc keeps deleting letters every time I make a mistake and try to change the words.

Here is the dosage Wendy.

Here is the pp dosage. 2mg/L and dose for 4 hours. Try the Prazi first as this should kill them.
If it does not then try the PP

You will also need to treat the fish with anti-biotics as the worms heads are anchored (hence the name) in the fishes skin.

I don`t think Metronidazole will be much good. Amoxicillin or Chlromycetin should do the trick. Ask a specialist vet which is better.
Do not use Chloromycetin for humans as it contains ingredients(which I cant remember again  )that are not great for fish.

This should sort you out babe. If you still have probs I will post over the Flubenol.
