Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

What a week, I've had some bad luck recently.
I've lost:
2 Horseshoe Crabs - Predation by a blue Hermit crab.
1 Bubble Anemone - Unknown (Suspected high nitrates).
1 Yellow Clown Goby - Unknown (but maybe agression from another YCG)
1 High Fin Banded Goby - Unknown (lasted 1 day).
1 Corydoras Aenus - Developed very weird fungus type infection in each 'nostril'
1 Whiptail type Pleco - Strange 'flesh eating virus' where it had a couple of holes in its bock/side that had rotted away right past the ribs. Another identical has the same infection and I am treating with melafix. I will be contacting the vendor separately.
1 Julie (Transscriptus maybe) - Unknown, I hope my recent gill flukes are not back, I think I'll treat my African tank again.

On a plus point I have 30 new Yellow Lab fry and 40 new Rubins red fry.

I had the same bacterial infection with all of my Bristlenose Plecs a few months ago. It ripped right through them, like something from a horror movie. Holger identified it at the time. The thread should is on this board on page two, i named it \"the great Ancistrus massacre\". Mine was brought about by a sudden temperature change i.e a heater stuck in the on position. I don't think any medication can stop it.

Bad week?? More like terrible week!!!!

Smoke me a Kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.

If I were you, I would seriously consider treating the African tank, especially if you have added fish recently. Fish from the Cech Republic appear to be carrying some type of skin parasite at the moment. It's difficult to identify this through quarantining as the infected fish doesn't show symptoms, but quickly infects other fish when added to the main tank.

I've treated my main tank three times over the last 5 months. I find that Waterlife Protozin does the trick and clears the problem up in one dose.

In future, I'm going to treat all quarantined Africans with Protozin before adding to my tank. It appears to be the only way to combat this at the moment.

Regards,

Ken.

Very interesting that Ken.
Might try that stuff.

I forgot to add to the list
1 White Calvus - Aggression (someone took a hefty chunk out of its midrif).
