Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Some of you read my tank rebuild thread
Here www.irishfishkeepers.com/cms/component/o...mit,10/limitstart,0/
This evening I added 6 clown loaches and now I have white spot again
I need to treat for white spot but I will only treat a half dose because of the loaches:(
The only other fish im worried about is the armored shrimp? Will they cope with the treatment?

I just treated with a half dose and I will keep an eye on it over the next few days, these were the last few fish I had planned to stock without a quarantine tank

1/2 dose should be fine for the shrimp as long as it dose not contain copper.
I wiped out a tank of CRS (Crystal Red Shrimp) with a half dose of eSHa as it did not tell me on teh pack that it contained copper, so I would make doubly sure whatever you intend using has no copper.
As shrimp are very delicate and the first to tell you that you have water problems, usually by kicking the bucket I would try to avoid using chemicals with them if possible, especially when treating for white spot / velvet type parasites as the shrimp (to my mind anyway) are just a more advanced form of white spot / velvet.
Best of luck with whatever you decide, let's know how you get on.

Didnt think the whitespot would be able to survive in that temperature. However I'll do a few water changes as I actually think it isnt whitespot to be honest, but I'll keep an eye on it.
I previously used API Whitespot treatment,it was fine for the corys and shrimp. However certainly check for Cooper in any meds you may have and of course remove carbon from the filter

This dose not stop your tank from getting whitespot, I keep my tank at 27c. Also
The reason we turn up the temp is to fight the dieses quicker, as these can only be killed while free swimming,

I still reckon I dont have whitespot and I hope to god I dont as Im away for 2 or 3 days over the xmas from tomorrow on and I just hope this disease doesnt occur. I'll probably pay a visit to check the tank on 26th just to be sure.
I did a water change there, and also cleaned the filter which was due a clean,it was rather dirty but should be fine now. Hopefully this will see an improvement in my tank. I just find it ironic that my golden ram gets sick and the angel also appears to be showing issues. Water parameters are fine. Guess its one of the mysterys of fishkeeping. Will keep an eye on it and if I see more spots I'll treat it.
How is your tank now?

Read the instructions and they will let you know.
I seen a guy in a shop treat a bay of tanks with protizin before. He never turned off the UV and killed all the fish.
