Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just a reminder that the water in your domestic Taps will tend to be on the not so good side once this bad Weather has abated, you know the usuals, Flushing agents, Chloride, Fluoride etc etc, just a heads up if you intend any big Water Changes.

Cheers Kev.

I did my regular water change with conditioned tap water on Sunday with no problems.

I know Fingal were to cut water supplies earlier in the week for 1 night for maintenance works. I am always weary of using water for the tank after such water cuts through previous bad experience losing stock.

Lucky me.On a deep well.Since years no problems with it otherwise it might be worth to invest in a RO unit. The thoughts that they want to charge for water(sommertime:watershortige and high chlorine/wintertime main pipes freeze and all sorts of dirt in it)makes me laugh.Regards,Tim

Hi Tim,

Not sure of this but rumour has it that they intend taxing Wells too.

This is VERY important. I lost my dicrossus after the snow earlier this year (along with an apisto and about 100 crypts, although some of them grew back). Since then, it's RO all the way. The unit has nearly paid for itsself in the savings on water conditioner. With the peace of mind, it's well worth it.

As a quick side note, TDS seems to have dropped currently. I'm getting 65-68 ppm at the moment from D2 water. It's normally 85-95. Weird.

this is true, they either put a standard charge across the board, or you pay for your outflow, or something like that
and Tim i totally agree with you. i would pay for the water if it was useable. i have small RO for drinking and cooking as would never trust the crud they pump around the mains. its shocking they want to charge when only 20% of the total water in this countries water table is barely drinkable. for such a wet country there is a huge water shortage of potable water

I heared this aswell. But I think it will be not as easy to bring in this law.The well owners had to develope the supply themselfs and are responsible for the maintainance aswell. All what they use is a natural source which the country doesnt really own.If so they might charge for the air next:) .We will see.Regards,Tim

Ah there's a typical mistake, saying Christ or God or whatever isn't using the name in vain, calling yourself Christ or God or Jesus or any other God of any Deity , that's using their name in vain.

Just thought I'd share, imagine the number of idiots that went to their deaths worrying about being in perpetual anguish, weeping and gnashing of Teeth etc while all along they had it all wrong.

Amendment to above: I just Googled the Name in vain thing, I opt out of any discussion on it because I hate hate hate Headaches.

I am in dublin 12 and havent been doing water changes as bad experience last year with deaths after the water shortages. Me and the 2 kids have been really sick for about 3 weeks even though boiling and filtering the tap water. ended up in the doctors with one of the nippers and the doc says she will send off the water for testing so maybe might get some interesting results. I can already tell her its bad bad bad as my tummy knows.

thanks to friend have now sourced safe water and changes are in progress. The fish are thrilled so thanks.

I am buying drinking water at the moment and it has made a big difference to our tummies so tap water is not safe to drink at present. The cheek of them wanting us to pay for it. Will they reimburse my doctors fees and medicine bills?
