Nano tank 50 litres
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

HI all:
In this post I would like to show my current tank. The first thing I did with my first salary was to visit SH!!! After half an hour I was coming back home with a tank in the car XD.
The tank is a 50 litres one, with a kind of sump filter in the back glass. I put 4 kg of black gravel, 4 red-brown stones, a couple of wood and water. The next week I added some plants, ceramic tubes in the sump and I let the nitrogen cycle to start.
During cycled process I was adding 1 ml of fertiliser every day. To promote the plants growth and the settle of the roots. Besides, a good fertiliser decreases the nitrogenated compounds by activating the plant metabolism (at least in theory). However, the light that comes with the tank has not so much power, it is just 18W. So I am in the way to change the lamp, but I am having dificulties to find a proper one. (I thank for suggestions in this topic).
When nitrite and ammonium level became safe for live stock (ie 0 and 0 ppm) I went back to SH and I brought home 15 grill rasbora, 2 badis badis and 2 dwarf cichlids. They are so small and so shy, that it looks as I had no fish in the tank!!! But they are beautiful!!
In the next weeks I would like to introduce more grill rasboras, and (if I can found them) two badis females.
The project started as a shrimp tank, but when I knew about these fish I fall in love with them.
As soon as I can I will attach some pictures of the fishes and the whole tank.
Regards

The choice of the lighting will depends on the plants you want to grow.
There are lots of plants for which your lighting will be sufficient.
I personnally love the tmc mini led 400, quiet powerfull and energy efficient. Will be more than enough for your tank.

Hi all again:
I could take some pictures yesterady and I would like to share it with all. The pictures are nos very good, but they show some of the inhabitants and the general look of the aquarium.
REgarding the plant I am keeping, this is the list:
Microsorum trident
Microsorum mini
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis
Vesicularia ferriei
Cladohpora
Java moss
I agree these plants (except Lilaeopsis) are not very light dependents, but I would like to plant some "cuba" and other grass plants. Because of this I am thinking in changing the light.
I am detecting some algae growing,

The Glass is always greener on the other side.
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!
