Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

What's in the Shopping Bag this week then? Hey!

Maybe to kick off a 'boast' thread......and it may be used in evidence in divorce cases :)

So.....what is in the fishy shopping bag this week?......

I'll kick off with this past weeks bagged shopping:
-Sawbwa resplendens (asian rummy nose)
-Charax gibbosus (do they have a common name? mad-looking cross between a glass fish, a club-shaped headstander, and a vampire fish)
-Teleogramma brichardi
-Thoracocharax stellatus (?? possibly....I need to get a final ID on these but they are quite small at present and need to settle in quarantine....or they could be some other hatchetfish)
-Nannostomus beckfordi (pencilfish); and
-Iriatherina werneri (threadfin rainbow)

You have money to burn Ian!
I didn't buy much this week, but next week...that's a horse of a different colour (for people old enough to remember 'The Wizard of Oz').

Cheers Ian.

P.s. They will find any gap in a lid. Even the ones you can't see.

P.p.s. Who the F*** decided it was a good idea to disable left click on forum posts, so as to require typing a fish name into google instead of highlighting it and right-click to search?

I have left and right click mouse functions.

Hatchets are flying wizzards (possibly the closest to a true flying fish......but boy, look at that sternum).

There's a challenge. Configure a serial mouse on a laptop without a serial port.
Probably still easier than doing it on DOS5 with 2 serial ports available, when some s***** cork w***** decides to swap the input and then boot the machine. :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
Quite difficult to fix without the install disks (no longer available!).

met ian at seahorse on sat. so he's probably added to his list lol. we were there till well after closing and had a very enjoyable mini conference :) (chat) with keelen, xeon and darren. i just bought some filter floss to see if i can clear the pond of green water and some fine black gravel for the crystal shrimp. they are doing a big makeover at seahorse and it is starting to really shape up and should be very impressive on completion.
also called in to purrfect pets and they have a display of huge, wild, red spotted green discus, well worth a look for any of the discus fans. dont know if they are for sale or display though.

'twas a good chat, Derek.
I think we discussed everything except Cars (well...even that as 2 people tried to reverse into you).
If there's a chat on classic rock, then I'm happy. :)

And a great inspiring chat with yourself, Keelan and Darren on the feeding of copepods etc

I didn't buy any fish though (even though I have a completed premium loyalty card awaiting decisions).
I only dropped up as J was away for the weekend, and to snoop on how the Seahorse revamp was coming along, and to get a piece of bog-wood for the Teleogrammas.

The discus in wackers (purrrfect pets) are for sale as far as I know. But the price does seem to have gone from the tank.

It looks like no one is doing any buying :)
But, the shops are still getting some nice fish in stock to tempt finicky buyers like me. :)

In the last few weeks, here is what shops have been able to 'con' me into buying (just joking there).

Nanochromis transvestitis
Stiphodon elegans....got 4 of them. very nice.
Some more small chocolate gouramis (I needed more males to cope with the female thugs !)

some nice Aponogeton plant species and a good pieces of hardware.

And many other temptations.....but room and compatibility is a problem.

I'm sure other people are still buying stuff.....what stuff?

@Cichlidguy and Dyco619.....some choice fish on them lists.

I've been very good and have resisted the temptation back into Tanganyikans. But I do like Tropheus.

@dyco....have you got or are you looking for liquorice gourami and valliant chocs gourami? (I couldn't quite work out if that was some wishes or not).

You need as many male valliants as you can get.....the females are total bitches (to be honest...and that is nothing against women) towards the poor old males.

Hi Murph & forum users,

I just noticed the left click [COPY] function disabled myself from Internet Explorer (IE) browser. I just tested it on Chrome & it works fine there. Furthermore, I tested other websites using my IE8 and the mouse text select and copy function works fine. I can only conclude that there is some website setting that the Irish Fish Forum moderators need to adjust to enable the mouse click copy function in IE. In the interim users can download Google Chrome.

Slainte,

Paul

@ Murph : Glad you got sorted out

@roscelt : Did you try this "compatibility mode" ? Did this help ?
I personally hate IE these days. I use Chrome all the time ;)
