Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

This doesn't mean that favourite fish from 'way back when' (for the benefit of slightly older chaps like myself) will have changed - here's a chance to list your all-time favourites, current favourites and even a 'dream' wish list.
It's just a bit of fun, so why not send in a list (or three).

I love Green Terrors; stunning looking fish and no matter what their temperament, they're never boring.
Bala sharks; I'd love to have a tank big enough to have a shoal of these. Sometimes colour isn't everything.
Sewellia lineolata; I'm setting up a tank for these in the next few weeks. They're a striking looking fish that live in a fascinating environment.
And just just to drop in something a little exotic, the soda cichlid; not only are they beautiful, they also live in incredibly extreme conditions... incredibly high pH, hardness and in temps that, frankly, would be warm enough to make a good cappuccino!
Oh, and Sinocyclocheilus furcodorsalis; I'm amazed by blind cave fish and if one of these became available, I'd HAVE to set up a tank for it. However, as far as I know, I I'd be paying nearly adult arowana prices for a 2 inch fish

No 2 would be goldfish, a graceful and a highly underestimated fish. A tank full of fantails can look stunning.
No 3 is tough and changing regularly but Im gonna say lemon tetra. Another one that may not look great at first but really colours up after a while and dart around the tank.

My second one would have to be the corydoras habrosus, love the way they swim around the tank totally oblivious to what else is goingg on in the tank.
For the wish list, it would have to be, like eric, a group of altum angelfish.

1. guppies - if you can get ones that don't die so much!
2. Glowlight tetra - I think totally underrated, easy to keep & breed, fantastic colour in a tannin stained tank but more subtle than some.
3. bolivian rams - easier than the German Rams, more subtle colouring but great character
4. Odessa barbs - when these colour up fully, they're fantastic - especially if you take the time to stop & watch them .
5. Yellow lab - practically a marine fish without the expense!
