Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Gravel (for free)

Clearing out a 4' * 1' * 1.5' tank.

It had a UG filter, so the Gravel is about 4 inches thick.

Its not pea gravel, its bigger (but not sharp). Free to whoever wants it or needs it.

It would be ideal for anyone seeding a new tank.

Any takers, gimme a shout.

Smoke me a Kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.

You gearing up for the big move Pete?

I have a RIO 240 practically empty at PH 7 (will confirm) if you need a safe haven for a while.

Yeah, Deco is taking that tank for good, He took the Convicts too.

I might take you up on that offer but probably won't be moving for a month or so, you'll probably have it full by then!!!

Was thinking that i might get my Rio 300 moved on the moving day but it'll be a lot of hassle, might bring it to my ma's, set it up there and when i'm settled in the new house move it then. Ahhh the stress.

Well what is it you want to temporarily rehome?
I'm setting up the tank for as low a ph I can get (naturally - no chemicals) and I intend to keep a few schools of tetrae (?).
I've always wanted a big school of Black Widows.
And maybe some Hatchets.

Anyway the ph should be 7.6 or lower now.
I've completely changed out the coral sand for that B&Q playsand (jaysus it took ages to clean). I must say I love the new look of the tank. Its heavily planted and bogwooded, with a few stones.
I'll try to get a pic up.

Where was I? Oh yeah what do you want to rehome, I'm working on that ph. I can hold off on the tetra for you. Got to fill my African tank too so....

Its mostly tetras, one discus, corys, clown loaches, and 5 angels. Its a planted tank too so loads of plants aswell.

I have black widows but only a few, i have 12 bleeding heart tetras, they look fabulous in the shoal, you should give them a try.

We'll I can try to match your ph if you want to move a few fish as a trial.
What is your ph there?
I'd be dead nervous about the discus, never tried them before.
Anyway let me know if you want to do it.

Also I have the space to store your tank during the move if you just want to take it easy on the stress. I'm sure we know someone with a van...

Nice one, My ph is about 7.1-7.2. I could set up my C02 in your tank and that would drop the ph a good bit too.

Anyway, I'm sure we can sort something out, you are a lifesaver. I've been stressing about moving the tank more than anything else.

I just had to do it myself and understand the hassle.
One peice of advice, do not try to do it on move day.
Asking for trouble.
I'll pm you my mobile.
