Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ladies and gentlemen
I need an effective treatment for fungal infection on fins!
I picked up a pair of chocolate cichlids earlier in the week, by the time I got them home (about 1 and a half hrs later) both where in fairly bad shape! Both on their side gasping for air and struggling
Very short very acclimation later and they are both now in my tank and living! However it's taken its tole on them and they both have fungal infections (cotton wool type spots on their fins (it's not white spot))
I need to get them back to full health
Any remedies have to be safe for my cray fish too! (They share the tank with her)

Thanks

You need to get this sorted fast. I'd use esha 2000 and melafix together. Chocolate cichlidsare lovely peaceful fish but will go down hill fast with any stress. Hope they fully recover.

Yea I know Paul
I've been treating with a tetra product that I had at home, but wasn't sure if there was something better I could use instead!
It is clearing up with what I'm using, but obviously a if something else was more effective I would use it!
I don't like to see my pets not well! I'll do whatever it takes to get them back to full health!

ESHA products in my experience get the best results and at the same time are the least harsh on fish and invertebrates...

Melafix is all natural so is very helpful too!

Large water changes during the treatment period will really help too Neil!

Actually Neil its probably best to hospitalise the fish in question in a small hospital tank and treat them seperateley...Their chances of recovery will be vastly improved!

I decided against that this time mate for 2 simple reasons! My qt tank is currently is use for something else! And with the size of the 2 effected fish, it would probably freak them out being put into such a small tank anyway!
Plus there's only 1x small female convict 1x pleco, 1x 3stripe catfish and my cray fish in with them! And there is absolutely no agression or stress in there!

I wouldn't recommend do a wc during treatment and remove any carbon in the filter. Once the treatment is finished then do a big wc 30% and add activated carbon to your filter for 4/5 day's.
