Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It's a bit of a 'delicate' subject really, I think that if you prefaced the video link to a short piece of info about the contents so that anyone who might decide to look at it is aware of what's to be seen and can make the choice whether to look or not I think that's just about OK. After all - it isn't like the halfwits who post videos of feeding live creatures to predatory fish on youtube - which is a most definite "NO", we have had to block several videos of this nature down the years, so as long as one of the Bettas doesn't end up dead, work away.

I'll not be watching it myself, though - but that's a purely personal thing.

Don't see the need to post it to be honest. Would you go on a dog forum and ask could you post a video of a dog fight ???

Dont know how you can compare the two;torturous dog fights and abuse arranged by scum with nothing between their ears and something natural that happens right across the board in nature. Most fishkeepers i assume would have heard info regarding male siamese fighters, that if you let a male siamese look at his reflection in a mirror he will flare up looking to fight, for that reason your best with only one male in a tank.
The video was the first time i have seen a siamese fight and it brought home the importance of keeping males seperated, especially in the confines of an aquarium '''

But you see betta fighting is organized all over south east Asia just like dog fighting is . Of course it happens in the wild just like wild dogs fight in the wild so it's very easy to compare them .

I think fights in the wild are alot different as usualy the animal loosing the fight has somewhere to run away 2, where as human organised fights like dogs and cock fights also with fish they are in an enclosed space where the loosing animal has nowhere to run

I saw a programme where young lads in Thailand catch them and put them in a pint glass to fight until they die
