Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

New life spectrum cichlid formula was created by Didihno (Didihno)
A couple of days ago I tried this stuff out on my community tank.
My ordinary community tank, tetras, corys, etc.
They loved it, of course, but today I noticed that some of the tetras, mostly the Black Widows have very swollen or distended stomachs.
Is this food poisenous for these types of fish, or is it over feeding? (I may have put in too much but the Corys seemed to have gotten their share).

Bit worried about this, should have checked first.
I haven't fed this evening, just in case.

There are at least 20 types of this food. All packaged in the same coloured tubs.

You have to make sure you have picked up the right one.

In your case the comunity pellets.

Is that the one you have got ?

If you have a cichlid or the marine and not comunity pellets then the protine content maybe way to high for your fish to cope with.

It isn't poisonus for them but then again it isn't good either if it is the cichlid or marine type you have fed them.

Don't feed them for 4 days and keep an eye on them.

Don't feed anything till there stomachs are the right size again.

They loved it because there is garlic in the pellets
Hope this will also help

It is the cichlid formula teeny granules, which is why i fed it, small enough for my tetras.

They won't be getting it again.

They do a comunity pellet that will be small enough for your tetra's.

But if you don't trust it now it is up to you wether or not you want to get that type.

Like I said no food for a few days and keep me posted how they are. :)

Had a look this morning and bellies seem to be shrinking.

Its not that I don't trust the new life food, far from it.
Just that the food seems to be totally unsuitable.
I might invest in the community version.

Thanks Red!

I have the Cichlid version also which I use in my community tank. All my fish love it, including my 3 gouramis. I haven't seen any ill effects.

Regards,

Ken.

Then maybe it was overfeeding, but I doubt it.
These bellies were quite distended.

Perhaps if I crush up the food into even smaller sizes?
Anyway I'll go look for the community version.

That food is totally safe for your fish and will not cause their bellies to swell. Most of it is the same really.
I feed it to my Tropheus. If Tropheus can eat it and not swell then anything can eat it.
The fry food is super as it sinks. The Tetra stuff is crap as it floats and clogs up the filters.

Newlife is excellent food. I feed it to all my fish and found it superior to all the rest dry food products.
