Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It is something else alright.
Its huge but it looks very bland and unnatural. White background looks crap. I would have much better fish in it too.

Ok I`m jealous.

^^ I agree its a pretty boring tank really, very bland, I was more impressed by the fact this was a "home" aquarium and also that he was doing 10'000 gallons a week water changes :shock:hehe I was wondering if I left the tap on all day how long would it take for a 10'000 gallon water change.

I was trying to find another link for another big tank in someone's house, it was a guy in the UK, I seen it sometime last year, he built an extension for a pumphouse and everything looked great until he put the tank in, basically he knocked out a wall and put this huge long aquarium going through his living room, it divided up the whole house downstairs, it was a big tank, but it looked gank, don't know what the guy was thinking, anybody know the tank im talking about?? can't find the link again.

That is some project he took on building that TANK.
I wonder how many endler live bearer's you could keep in a tank that big.

I recently visited a guy here in Dublin who has a 9,000 ltr. tank and i taught that was big. How wrong i was.

2 large common plecs
An assortment of rays
2 pike chiclids and some south American cichlids.
I know this gives you no idea of what the cichlids are but when it comes to cichlids you are asking the wrong person.
The next time i am talking to him i will get the names. Or if Drew reads this he might post some of the names. :o

The day before i went to view his tank he had a dissaster. Due to nitrogen rise he recons he lost 61 fish. 42 kg. some of these he has had for 10 or more years. So he was'nt to entuseastic about showing off the remains of his fish.

It was a lovely setup. Sand subtrate, LARGE bog wood, large fake plants that were covered in alger which gave them a realistic look.
Only the front of the tank was glass with solid sides and back.
The fluidize filter must have been 6 foot or more tall and a swimming pool pump for circulation.

Awesome looking tank but I'd hate to see his ESB bill, considering the rate at which ours hase gone up in the last 18 months

Best Regards..............Tony
