Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Someone on here may be able to tell you how the marks are allocated and what defects or features are most important. I know that at the show last year, t was an eye opener for me to see the time it took and the careful analysis that went on judging the fish. I had always assumed it was a quick look and walk on.

Why not enter? You may be pleasantly surprised.I entered 4 fish last year(1st show I'd ever been to),they were the 1st into the net of the species I chose to show, and had no special treatment or conditioning beforehand, simply scooped out of an overstocked community tank.I got 1st and 2nd in corydoras, and 3rd in tetras.
Give it a go,nothing to lose!

howdi

at fbas open shows..a possible of 100 points maximum are attainable..

these 100 points are split into 5 categories.

Size
Body
Colour
Fins
Condition and Deportment

a maximum of 20 pints per category are possible ..

Size is measured- against the maximum size they believe the species in question can attain.

Body is pointed as in -is the exhibit well fed?,and not skinny and emaciated.

Colour is pointed as in - is the exhibit showing best colouration and in many cases a true colour for that given species and extra points can normally be gotten if the given fish is in breeding colour.

Fins are pointed- are all fins intact? no nicks? no bent fin rays? etc.

Condition and Deportment pointed as -is the exhibit looking alert? obviously some fish swim more than others and this is taken into consideration.A plec may sit there but would get good points for having its dorsal fin sitting erect and showing off.. a reverse may be a danio sitting on the bottom instead of swimming around in mid-top water...

average points out of 100 are say 75... good points up to 85,85 to 90 equals outstanding and 90 plus is top end and can count on one hand in a season...

hope i havent bored anyone...lol

No cheating, but donations to the Judges holiday in Majorca, can be done to a off shore account in Palma de Mallorca, account details to follow. Other wise the catfish will win best fish as the growth hormone that normally gets damped down, by most species of fish in a enclosed eniroment with limit space for some reason the catfish family are not effect by stunted growth, the judges dont realise that so they will skew size marks to maxium obtainable size without taking this catfish phenonium into consideration, so if you want a win. Place a catfish, or make \"arrangements\" that sure you fish are in breeding condition for maxium colour.

That would be a ecumenical matter!!!
