Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I finally managed to find a little quiet time to read JohnH's winning article.I must say that I cannot wait for the next installments!!!

Well done, John! This article is so well written and captivating. It gives people a good base to either identify themselves back in those days and illustrates to the younger ones how things have changed on a technological standpoint and are now easily available on the open market.
I am really looking forward to the next parts of the article, which will be relevant to my memories of when my parents kept fish in the early 70s (my dad kept fish much earlier than that, but it never came up in more recent conversations. I guess I'll never know now).
I don't think I am that much younger though as I do have some memories of Paul Anka's \"Diana\" too (my mum has the 45LP at home!)

JohnH -> Well Done and thank you for the excellent read !!!
Darragh -> I can't wait for the next episodes, please post them soon !
Regards,
Valerie

Some of the articles were 100% fish related and nothing wrong with that, but Johnh's was a interesting mix of fishy stuff and an interesting memoir. I don't go quite as far back, but I am keeping fish about 25 years, although only seriously for the last 2 or so. It was fascinating to read some of the exploits another fish keeper went thru to get / keep and breed their fish. I am a little ahead in that I have enjoyed the whole article, I think we will get the balance posted up asap, there is no point keeping you all hanging on for the next installments!
Once again congratulations to Johnh, Cardnim and all that entered and a big thank you to Derek Doyle and Phil Kearney.
Daragh

The Daphna bloom the sudden wipe out can be controlled, by adding lime and cow dry done to park pond when know one is looking the hit it with a smaller amount monthly to keep \"stability\" the just net daphnia out for a long season period, for some reason the invertebrate need the lime to build their exoskeleton and when not present \"crash\" suddelly.
Well done for winning the article, if you were trying to pull any of the fair sex the article may of dated you a little:laugh: as I only started to hobby when the oiled air pumps where going out which makes you much much more senior than me;) , having said that there may be some female reeders such as Mary Bailey that still can eaisly be pulled on a fish forum, best of luck and keep up the good writing.

JohnH's winning article Part II is now available online : \"A collection of personal fishkeeping (and allied) memories Part II\"
I have enjoyed reading the 2nd part of this article. It's nice to see how some things do change over time while some others don't.

JohnH => Thank you again.
