Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

just a quickie folks....

woke up on thursday morning to the sound of trickling from the tank:unsure: and upon arriving downstairs found aprox 100ltrs of nice warm smelly water on the front room carpet!!!!!
after having a good look round the filter (including pipes)and tank itself i found the non return valve had come off from the airline and...... guess the rest:blink:
im so careful to check the filters lights fish and parameters but overlooked this damn little pipe.
give yours a check will ya:woohoo:
dunno bout a prof. carpet cleaner but €60 for hire of cleaner and 6 hrs of my time getting the room sorted cost too much.
have a nice day

Hi Suckers,
sorry to hear that not what you want at all! it is as you say very important to check equipment regularly a few minutes each day can save hours and cash.
When it comes to air line check valve i try to position them with in the tank well above the water line thus if it disconnects the line fall into the tank with no water escaping.
and yes i learned this the hard way! I would also suggest that you have airline clamps on for any occasion you need to turn off the air pump as precaution and of course replace valve regularly 12 months min and replace air line and valve at least every three years for best results.

never thought bout that mickey. ill have to try to reposition the air line. not looking forward to replacing the whole airline as its incourperated (sp) into the background!!!!!
turn off the airpump! its not on 24/7 but about 20 min a day! the return from the filter is aprox 1inch from the waterlevel and there is millions of air bubbles all around the tank ( some ppls even think the water is clouldy)

rather than going to all that trouble you could try put it together then using some sealant or safe glue to hold together.
so long as it is water resistant and non toxic if it will come in to contact with water.

100l on the carpet !oh dear !!! ... Hope it did not create too much havoc in your house. Mind you, it might be the perfect timing for you to get both a new carpet and a new tank !!!

No way, carpets will dry out, spend the extra on a bigger tank
Sorry to hear of your leak, consider yourself lucky, in a previous fishkeeping life I burst a 100 gallon tank twice in a few months. That was a 100% leak and the prompt end of serious fishkeeping for about 15 years!

Find a fish she likes that is breedable, then let her ooo and ahhhhh over the littuns, while you explain you need to get another tank so they don't get eaten
