Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Anyone ever kept a Jardini?

I have the opportunity to buy a Juvenile at a good price.

Very tempted but not sure where I'd put him in the short term.
I believe they are crazy aggressive as they get bigger.

Great news 2poc. I've had 2 Jardinis before. They are not best with slow moving tankmates. Those that 'survived' were silver dollars and red hooks - no dragonfins or tiger datnoids would do well. When are you planning to get your Jardini?

Nice one Ian!

They are available from tomorrow, I'm still in two minds as to whether to go for it.
I'd have to set up a new tank quickly for it etc.

How did you find yours when it came to feeding - would they take pellets?
Are they any different to look after from silvers apart from aggression?

Thanks,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thats great. How big is the one your getting? Jardinis are closer to Formosus in terms of size, but all arowanas have same water requirements - I havent been able to feed my jardini any pellets, but silvers yes. Jardinis also have very short barbels that usually bend inwards so much like a whisker and not that good looking compared to Asians and Silvers which have straight barbels. Watch out for pop-eye syndrome in Aussies. You will have success with tankmates with silvers, Asians than Aussies - they are very very agressive. Watch out your fingers when feeding too close.

Thanks Ian, they're 120cm so still small..

I don't want to have to feed any live food, I might give them a while to see what the supplier can get them feeding on & then make a decision.

I do prefer the look of them over Silvers though, not as nice as an Asian but cheap enough to start out & see how it goes

is that 2in? Sorry i dont know how to convert - but for that size it would be very easy to train to eat carnivorous pellets/bloodworms. mealworms would also suit well to speed up growth.

120cm :woohoo: I hope that's a typo.

That's 1.2 metres or 4 feet long. Maybe you meant 12 cm?
