Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Anyone got a Juwel Rio 300 Cabinet?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out the dimensions of the Rio 300 cabinet. Not the outer dimensions but the innards....

Basically there's 3 columns/cupboards (for want of a better word) and the two outer ones have doors while the middle does not.

a) Do the outer ones have shelves in them as I can't find a picture anywhere? If so what height are the shelves from the base? Can you put them at different heights?

b) how wide are the outer cupboards? (inside width)

Thanks a mill.....

Hi essjay,

I know that the outer cupboards have a shelf in them. If it's similar to the Vision 260 cabinet then there is only one height for the shelf but you could do something to change that yourself. As for the internal dimentions hopefully someone who has one can help. The juwel site only provides external dimentions of the entire cabinet

cheers for that.

Basically I'm trying to figure out what size canister filter I can fit in one of the cupboards.

I'm guessing that the internal dimensions of each one are about 40cm wide x 50cm deep x 70 cm high.

The shelves aren't screwed in so you just pop them out. They sit on those little nobbley thingys (Technical word i swear!!!!)

You would be able to fit a monster size External in it no problem.

Smoke me a Kipper, I’ll be back for breakfast.

I have the rio 300, i can measure the cupboards if you want. As is already said, they have shelves which can only be put slap bang in the middle (the same height as the one that you can see in the middle). The shelves are removable and in the left hand cupboard I have a TetraTec 1200 and a TetraTec 600, the air pump and a 5 way power strip. I'm not sure if you'd find a cannister taller than the 1200 but there's loads of height left anyway.

HTH,

Matt

thats great, thanks a million.

I'll probably locate the shelf a bit higher with a few screws. Buy the sound of it the shelves are not required for the units load bearing or stability, both of which I was worried about.

No it doesn't seem to affect the load carrying capabilities.

I've totally removed the left hand side and left the one in the right as I use that for keeping chemicals, cleaning stuff, filter pads and the like.

The tank was still where I left it when I looked this morning :) Though I did have a similar concern as you initially. I might put the left hand one on higher up or just run a brace across the back. Just in case !!

I's say that the designers of the base put in a factor of safety knowing that some people would remove the shelves

Also has anyone any idea of the wattage of the pump that comes with the Rio 300?

It's a Pump Set 1000 thats is used in the following tanks Rio 240, 300, 400, Trigon 350, Delta 300, Vision 250, 260, 450.

Cheers....

It's printed on the side of the powerhead so I'll have a look see when I get home and post it up.

Great - 6.5 w....

So I've calculated that to run the Rio 300 (lights & pump) and an external Eheim filter (pump) will cost approx €17 on each ESB bill (bi-monthly) not including heaters. I estimate that heaters will add a further €20 - €40 onto that bill.
