Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

THOPHUS SHRIMP MIX

THOPHUS SHRIMP MIX

This is a mix I have made up in the past using ‘Whole Shrimp’ originally, but found the shells very hard to break down and finished up trying to pick out all the pieces of shell. So I would recommend using frozen or fresh shrimp that have their shells removed first.

This food can be used for any type of fish. Enjoy the experiment.

INGREDIANCE:

1Kg. Shrimp
1Kg. Frozen Garden Peas
100g. Agar Agar
100g. Spirelina
15 Drops Liquid Multi Vitamins

1. Mix Shrimp & Peas in Blender to a fine paste.

2. Then add Spirelena and Liquid Multi Vitamins.

3. Get Agar Agar ready, instructions on pack. This gels everything together.

4. Next add Peas & Shrimp to warm agar agar stirring all the time.

5. Pour mix onto a shallow tray, level off and put in the fridge.

6. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes to set.

7. Cut up into small squares and leave in freezer.

good recipe tom. i'll have to try this. did the shrimp shells not break down in the blender?
the old recipes used gelatin as a stabiliser but i guess this is regarded as unsafe these days.

Thanks Derek, there was a lot of shells fragments still in the mix so in the end I had to dump the first batch, the second mix was perfect and everything loved it, and when I got the recipe it had the Agar, Agar in it.

Damien, I got the Agar, Agar in a local health shop and there was loads in the bag, you’d have enough to keep you going for a full year at least, maybe we can get a few of the lads together and make it between us.

They have big raw frozen king prawns in Tesco at the moment really cheap - I think they were less than 2 Euro for 200g.

I stockpiled some for my haps & puffer.

Worth a look if you're planning on making a batch - assuming you can use prawns instead of shrimp?
