Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

35L tank stocking suggestions?

I'm sure some of you have seen my other posts!

I've a 35l tank and had a huge white spot problem and lost pretty much all fish. The petshop i went to previously seems to have misled me! Gave me 5 mollys, 2 cafish and a bristlenose and said there was room for more

Have one molly in it now - any ideas would be welcome!!

Hey,

Small tetras, harleqin rasboras, danios(except giants), and mabey a couple of small corys might suit your tank. Just watch the stocking level and you should do fine.

Diova has it right some of the bettas are really cool looking maybe try some female fighters and only 1 male as male fighters will bash each other hense the name here is a pic of my male fighter

and u still will have room for some more smaller fish forget bout a plec they grow way to big for a 35l tank try get some otto's cats they stay pretty small and do a good job on alge
also check out the smaller tetras like neon, rummy noses etc.
make sure u buy from a good shop and that the fish are of good quality

best of luck

Id avoid putting the male in with the females, unless its for breeding purposes in which case its usually temporarily. Esp also in a tank that is 35 litres, not a whole lot of places for them to hide if they dont get along! The male will kill the female. Id avoid it to be honest. Also female bettas wont always get along either, they can be aggressive also. Bettas aren't necessarily starter fish I feel, while they can be kept in small tanks their tankmates need to be carefully selected. Any long finned fish will encourage aggression and lots of chewed up fins!
Remember they are called fighters for a reason.

Also Rev, I wouldnt go to that petshop again from the sounds of it either!!
35 litre tank would give you plenty of options with smaller fish, a nice shoal of galaxy rasboras, or harlequin rasboras, perhaps some endlers, you could put a few shrimp in there, some corys..plenty of options available to you. Happy choosing!

In a 35l, you would get away with 20 ember tetras and 4 ottos, which would be nice with plants. (or ditch the ottos and put in 8 cory pygmaeus (they're mad little things, as are embers))
When things get established, 5 marble or black-wing (or 8 pygmy, if you can get them and if you can, please let me know!!!) hatchets would be nice for variety.

I know!
I'm sure Purrfect (spelling???) can get some more in if you ask Stephen.

Now about to get majorly distracted,
Am doing a water change on the 80l and the ottos have started getting frisky just with the water reduction, before I add the "Rain". (OK, flood is more like it...)
Tempted to move the embers and glowlights and checkerboards to the big tank for a while, and let the eggs grow (think the farlowellas will be ok in with them).

Mmmm, decisions, decisions..

have a well planted 54l myself, with 5 zebras ( great fish dont get enough credit) two corys, 3 ottos, 2 platies, might put in a couple of tiger barbs or cardinals, with your tank being only 30 lts would go with maybe 3 or 4 ottos, 5-6 cardinals and 3 corys let it settle for a while and see if your filter can deal with the load, if it settles allright you could chance 4-5 danios, dont go near plecs or mollies they shit like great danes and your filter wont be able to deal with them and any other fish you have
