Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I was just looking at the recent thread regarding the Vita Tech Filter. The first reply came up with a Vitakraft product with a Eheim design and the next reply with an actual Eheim itself. So is there 3 different products out there being the same thing more or less.

I was in the U.S. not too long ago and decided to stock up 'on the cheap'. I bought Tetramin Pro crisps as opposed to Tetra Pro crisps here. Also I got NLS Natural Colour Enhancing 1mm sinking pellets for community fish which are working out well. Recently though I was browsing in a LFS and noticed NLS 300g 1mm pellets for only a tenner. I snapped them up and then compared later on to my U.S. purchase. After about 10 minutes I eventually realised these where Hormone-Free Colour Enhancing pellets! I then checked the analysis to find the only real difference was the vitamin D content which was alot higher in the Natural type. I have also noticed different packaging with some of the regular stuff I get in the LFS.

At the end of the day it's just getting that bit harder to nip in and out of the LFS with your bits and pieces or indeed to buy online or in a different country.

I am a great fan of the HP brown sauce bottle by the way.;)

It's the same in many walks of life, clothing, groceries, etc.
Some people have to have the 'big names',others like me get stuff from the same factories, but with a retail company or supermarkets own label on it,it's the same thing from the same factory. It just hasnt the extra price to cover marketing executives trips around the world, huge advertising campaigns, sponsorship, etc, etc.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

I heared something about NLS that it hasn't been passed in Ireland yet as there is some ingredients which may have to go through food testing. So hard to find this now as they discontinued the old one.

Tis true.

People are more inclined to go for the flashy packaging if you put it next to a plain one. We always assume the more plainly (cheaper) packaged product is of lower quality.
As for the changing of the package well, their marketing managers need to justify their existence

Always good to know what is in the food be it yours or the fishy's, screu flashy packaging.

Brown sauce bottle is awesome.
The only one I got has Jack Daniels sauce in it, same bottle though, horrible gear that jd stuff but I keep the bottle.
