my poor discus , sad and furious
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

just back from holidays and i wish i hadnt went my blue turquoise discus and my larger pigeon blood where simply remains , i gave the person who was looking after them simple instructions which i stuck to the tank , the note said dont touch light switch as it was on a timer to come on every evening and the what food etc ... but i came home to a filthy algae full tank which the light had been unplugged from the day after i left and about 4 inches low on water , and the remaining fish were lifeless and colourless , it was unbelievably hard to earn the money for these fish and this is what happens ,
i have another holiday on thursday but my dad is going to look after them

Sorry to hear that. Big loss indeed.
I've been very lucky fortunately. Been away on a couple of longish holidays (2 weeks or a little more) and have had no casualties. Have had a very good person on hand to keep an eye on water level, temp and feeding every few days. Obviously with Discus they require a lot more feeding and care.

I want to add my sympathy to the above but believe me , very few people other than you can take care of your charges . It's happened to me a few times and you can be sure that nearly everyone here has experienced it too.
Don't lose Heart, just accept it and move on, It's easy to give up, don't.

Eric, sorry to hear the bad news. Don't become disheartened and keep up your previous good work. If you want a few more Corydoras for free just let me know before the weekend.
When I'm away my auntie Deirdre who is a microbiologist looks after my lads. When I first gave her my brief instructions, she just looked at me as if to say 'sure you don't have to tell me'. She always does a great if not a better job than myself!
All the best.
Dave

Sorry to hear about your bad news. I've just come back from 2 weeks away & left my cichlid tank to look after itself after a previous bad experience leaving my fish for someone else to look after. Did a water change before I left cleaned & changed the filter & left with an automatic feeder. Not a single casualty while I was away & that was a 20 fish tank which included 5 juvenile convicts.
