Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thanks Dar, its 72*24*26 and has a 48 inch sump. I'm going to run it with a 4000 lph return pump and a big koralia powerhead for extra flow.

Not sure what I'll put in the sump yet tbh. I have 3 external filters on one of my other tanks so I'll probably transfer one of those across to help cycle the tank in the short term anyway.

Cheers lads, I'm very happy with the finish on it. Had to wait a couple of extra weeks to get it in oak to match the rest of the kitchen.

The tank is actually a marine tank so if I go back to the dark side again the switch will be easy enough though I've no plans to in the near future.

I should be ready for the Aro in about 3 weeks, banjar reds are not really red (need deep pockets for a chilli red @ 1300 Euro for 6 inch fish), Banjars are more green coloured with yellow fins. Lovely looking fish though & have wanted one for ages.

Very annoying having a big tank sitting there empty at the moment, just can't find the time to fill it....

Took delivery of my Arowana for this tank last night.

Its an Asian, Banjar Red Arowana about 10 inches long.

With the intention of a careful acclimatisation I floated the bag for half an hour in the tank to equalise the temperature before opening and starting to add tank water to the bag, intended to take my time with this as there was a 0.8 PH difference.

So I opened the bag, straight away he comes up from the bottom and vaults out of the bag over my hands and into the tank…

So much for the careful acclimatisation… Lesson learned re: their reputation for jumping & the paranoia begins.

I would never live it down if this fish that I have waited so long for ended up crispy on the floor..

Went to bed with every tiny gap over the tank closed up ;)

No pics yet, he didn't arrive until late last night though all looking good this morning thankfully. Will video him over the weekend.

I have 2 stunning Geophagus going in with him tonight. My bro in law caved to incessant pressure and finally gave me something for free ;)

You will need to secure the tank lids/flaps down, one member lost an aro that jumped with the lid down, forcing it open and out onto the floor.
Can't wait for pics.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Christ, I'll get the missus to lock up the valuables in advance.... Dave - you're welcome to come along with the Adrian fella for a look if you're around.

Cheers for the comments lads, hopefully securing the lid won't be a problem once I figure out how to work the sliders properly as they won't push up from below like the Juwel lids do.

He didn't even leap Jay, it was so effortless it was unbelivable. I was left standing there, mouth-agape repeatedly uttering a word that is not suitable for typing here

Cheers Des,

Stock will be the Arowana, Giraffe cat, O. Niger, Megladoras, Datnoids, Geophagus & fancy plecs.

Going to keep it relatively lightly stocked.

No vid over weekend, went to take one last night & released there was no batteries in the camera

Water tests over the weekend showed nitrite so working hard on getting that sorted out.
