Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Heres the thing.
I'm moving to a much bigger house and want to get another large tank.
I have a RIO 240 at the moment and might get a 300l tank and keep Cichlids.

Now I'm not one for mind games with the wife but I just had to play crafty here, she didn't want another tank you see. So I told her that I had ordered and paid a deposit on a tank for her for her birthday, and she bought it. It was only a little white lie after all! We'll have (her) community tank with neons and guppys and my corys etc etc and I can move onto nice Cichlids!

So the Jewel I have is nice and all, but all the wood in the new house is pine. Are there other brands out there that make tanks like that?
If I buy a Jewel the filter is coming straight out either way too.
Ugly ugly ugly.

Petstop in Blanchardstown stock a wide range of non major brand tanks,Im nearly 100% sure they have pine tanks. They dont come with internal filters stuck with concrete either.I find it the best place around for tanks and the staff are fairly open to haggling and very nice.

How good are you with DIY? Built your own, it's not all that hard. Have a look at the stand that came with your tank and measure the pieces of timber. Quick trip to B&Q and they will cut the timber in the finish of your choice. You can use the screws and fittings that came with your original tank stand. Job done

do what i did with the Juwel filter - cover it with a structured background. You can see an image in the photo's section.... creates a nice little cave for catfish etc

I bought my tank in Blanchardstown. The do the Aquatlantis range which, in my opinion, are better looking than the Juwels. I think Gavin in Wackers does them too.

www.aquatlantis.com/

I'm not gone on their livestock though or the staff's knowledge of fish keeping in general. Just my experience.

Regards,

Ken.

yup we do the full range of aqualantis tanks. As far as I'm aware they're made by juwel too.but without the dumb filtration built in.Really like the look of them too so I do.

dont make me come over there.
