Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey folks , just a quick little story which i hope serves as both a warning and a good laugh for everyone .

I arrived home from work today and checked the two tanks as i always do . Everything looked fine so i turned off the lights again and proceeded to head for the shower . Just after stepping into the shower i heard a kafuffle downstairs in the hall ( mother kinda half screaming ) , but thought nothing of it to be honest . Once my name isn't called ..... it aint my business ( i've learned my lesson in the past ... lol ).

So approximately 15 minutes later after beautifying myself ( no laughing please ) , i emerged from the bathroom and headed for my bedroom to chill out and relax . Thenext thing i heard was the dreaded " MARTINNNNNNNNN " from the bottom of the stairs ..... i stuck my head out of my room and looked down the stairs to see my mother standing in the middle of the hall with a dustpan and brush . Not a strange thing to see i hear you say !!!!!

Why is this guy writing about his supposed relaxing night in after work is the question on most ppl's minds right about now .... and wot has this to do with fish ???? WELLLLL , let me explain .

My mother asked me to come downstairs and check the small 600 ltr tank that i have under the stairs as she thought she had done something seriously wrong . the previously mentioned kafuffle ( is that even a word ?? hmmmm ) that i heard 15 minutes or so previous was my mother half screaming at the sight of a creppy crawlie of some description , crawling out from under the curtain which covers the front door and the window beside it .

Now my mother although not a fish keeper , does have a certain level of interest in my two tanks and is always very keen when fry appear or when the fish swim to the front of the tank when she passes , in the hope of getting fed . The fact that she knows wot is in my 2 tanks is the shocking thing because the " creepy crawlie " that shocked her , turned out to be my 4 inch long blue lobster which somehow managed to escape the confines of his watery home !!!!!!!

After some very choice words and numerous expletives I asked her where she had dumped him ...... She had swept him up with the dustpan and brush and proceeded to dump him outside on the front driveway of the house "IN THE COLD AND RAIN " . As you can imagine ... a frantic search ensued , starting from where he was dumped ... to where i eventually found him , about 10 metres away .

I quickly scooped him up and dropped him back in the tank , upon which he darted up and down for about 10 minutes , tail first .... until eventually he seemed to settle . both holes in the back of the tank lid have now been sealed shut ....

I have heard before about lobsters and crabs being escape artists .... but all this guy was short was a suitcase and he was gone on hols

hopefully he settles back ok as he is the only survivor of a batch of 6 that i got when they were less than a day old .

anyway , just thought i'd share ... hope it gave everyone a good laff

Martin

Great story Martin, although with all that beautifying of yourself i may not recognize you next time we meet:laugh: .

It reminds me of when my mother screeched when she found a large furry african clawed frog front an centre in the living room.
I was keeping them in the attic but one decided to head south down the stairs.

My Brichir and my zigzag eel also tried to roam the gaff, the birchir was out of the tank for quite a while under a chair almost stuck to the spot when I found him, he's fine now.
