Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

a bit risky for my likings, all it could take is a stray bit of powder hidden in a corner or under the drain and you could wipe out your fish, on the salt, i'm not sure but it does sound a fantastic idea for larger pieces.

don't hold me to that though, i may be wrong, i suppose if you gave it a few empty cycles before hand.

p.s if you have a better half, dont let her know you can operate such a device, (especially for your fish tank). i can plumb them in, strip them down and repair them but i cant figure out the put dishes in, tablet and press power

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic

I would be thinking......a cheap bucket, a few spoons of salt and some boiling water, and waiting a few days might be a cheaper option.

And do you really really want a dishwasher repair man to have the opportunity to tell you off for putting silly things in the dishwasher. :) (they're bad enough at the best of times)

seen that salmon one on tv once, all you are doing is gently steaming/poaching it but it make more of a mess in the dishwasher

as for bog wood, get your tap water super hot and leave the wood soaking in very hot water in the bath. scrub as needed and change water once cold. had to do this for 3 days to sink a 3foot bit of wood.

I wouldn't do it myself,if you have been using dishwasher tabs in there, there would be residual elements that could leach into the wood and back out again when in a tank.even parts per million could potentialy kill things and you'd never know why!:silly:

dont make me come over there.

Thanks for the great replies ha ha salmon in a dishwasher :)
And dar she has me well trained in how to use the bloody thing I do more cleaning than her! But it keeps her off my back with the fish tanks

Don't think I'll go the dishwasher route iv got it in a big bucket in the shower filling it up with just hot and when it goes cold I fill it back up again. As I'm writhing this I'm thinking is it ok to use the hot water from the shower I think they use copper in the pipes for it. Do they!! :(

yes but i dont think there would be enough ionic copper dissolved in the water to affect it but on the final soak before going in the tank you could put some dechlorinator in the water as it does something to the heavy metals, i hear.
