Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

It is true that a hundred euro is not the end of the world, but the actually value is not the problem: it is the principle and the flood gates that it opens that is the big problem in my eyes

Agreed, 100%

over the years i have seen alot of protests getting SFA achieved because of lack of enough people or its been and gone in a couple of hrs which is rediculous... internet protests are for people who either don't have time, don't take the time, are afraid of their shite or too lazy to get out to get things done, cowards, just my opinion but should i go on??

we need to let the gouvernment know that we are the ones footing the bill for everyone, including homeowners, and with the talk that goes on their just gona find a different way to extort money from people!! like it or not we need a total country meltdown to show we won't take this shite anymore but who's gonna partisipate??... certainly not the irish!! sure we're going down the shitter anyways so whats the difference.... our fore-fathers didn't stand with plackards for maybe a few hours or hide behind a computer screen writing their names on petitions!!

i do agree with ger that alot of talking is easily done but at the end of the day who's gonna get out there??.. anyone

The catagory is News Christy, there have been many Fish unrelated topics in this Catagory over the years and it doesn't interfere with the other daily Fish related catagories or topics.

Here is the catagory description ...

News
News - Any news ? Please share it with us !

Kev.

Back in my time, we used to use the "Social and Rubbish" category for this kind of discussion as it is not fish related. :P
The "News" category was for fish-keeping, conservation, forum news and everything else.

IMO Boards.ie or politics.ie is a much better place for such involved discussions.

Kev,

I'm no lawyer by far, but i do know that, he who holds the deeds holds ownership.

If you do no have the deeds, you have no responsibility to pay the charge.

Likely, the deed is still held in trust in the deceased estate, and the charge would in my mind be payable from that estate.

With all due respect Valerie, how is " Cool Helicopter Video" or "The Six Nations" Fish related?
I have to say, I am somewhat confused as to why other posts in the past that I have just read, that don't comply have not garnered the attention of Admin and have however been allowed to remain in the "News" catagory and mine is moved?

There seems to be alot more opposition to this tax in rural area's, mainly because most people in country area's will own or have a mortgage on their house, where as in the city people will tend to rent or have social/ city council houses.I've been to quite a few meetings in my local area and there has been massive turn outs for them. But i have not been to the city for any of the protests about the charge due to work.To say that people are hiding behind their computer screens and being lazy is a bit harsh as the best way to protest against the charge is to not pay it.That will be the most effective protest against the charge and will show the government up to be the incompetent fools that they really are.

I forget who commented that they come to this website for an escape and to just deal with fish issues , but this was just one topic and no one compelled you to look at or read it. I log on everyday and only read topics on the site that interest me.If i see something i do not wish to read then i simply dont click on it.

Cheers Stuart.

PS. if this topic is not being classed as "NEWS" then it could at least show up on the most recent posts on the home page when a new post has been written.

Apologies Seamus for accidentally deleting your comment, a slip of the Hand,
I was replying to your conversation with Valerie,

Here is my reply...

With all due respect Seamus, how is " Cool Helicopter Video" or "The Six Nations" Fish related?
I have to say, I am somewhat confused as to why other posts in the past that I have just read, that don't comply have not garnered the attention of Admin or Moderators and have however been allowed to remain in the "News" catagory and mine is moved?

If you have to move my topic, I expect you to, out of a sense of fair play, trawl through the Posts in "NEWS" and move all other Posts contravening the rule.

While my rant was written in the heat of the moment and probably wasn't particularly well articulated it certainly is not uneducated but you are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

I made no reference to those who took out mortgages that they couldn't afford. That is a whole different subject and don't get me started on that one. Remember I have a mortgage too.

My point was simple.
As usual it is the ordinary Joe that has to pay for the greed of the politicians and the wealthy. The same politicians slated by the tribunals but still enjoy their state pensions and drivers for the rest of their lives.
How many ex politicians are drawing exorbitant state pensions while people who worked all their lives are living on a pittance.
What gets me most is the inequality of the whole system. If we were in any way responsible for any of the mess we are in I would have no objection to paying my share, however large that was. But to watch the fat cats that caused this to get away Scot free just gets to me.

Marching is pointless they don't care how many people turn out but don't forget there are always elections coming up, be they local or general.

There is a referendum coming up very shortly and we can voice our disgust with that vote and if the Irish people have any backbone with the re-vote because they lose the first.
Lets face it these guys are elected to represent us. What other country allows its politicians to take a mandate given them by the people and throw it out because it didn't suit there agenda.

I am going to stop now.

Pat

Mr Phil Hogan is the person who implimented the idea of the Household Charge and has been very insistant that it would be paid, this is a new and unfair Tax but he says everyone has to pay their way.

This just appeared in The Sunday Independent.

www.independent.ie/national-news/hogan-w...-charge-3067684.html

I bet there are quite a few people who paid finding it a wee bit tough to swallow their Cornflakes this Morning!

'Would you pay a charge if you were unhappy with service?' asks Minister

This man exceeds the criteria necessary to be classed as an Idiot.

OR IS THIS AN APRIL FOOLS DAY CAPER ???

Now, here's some good news (that doesn't include any of the deleted posts on this thread).

A Developer (withiin the focus of NAMA) has borrowed 500 million euro to pay and refund everyone's Household Charge as a gesture of goodwill.

This is in view of his previous erratic borrowing being instrumental in causing the hosuehold charge to be introduced.

Maybe today is day of celebration, or something else.

In the stupidity that we have seen going in the country, and if I were to be cynical for once (  ),it is totally conceivable that some gobber cowboy may actually do that (and then we'd have to pay back his 500 million loan borrowed to pay our household charge).

If that sounds like me being too ridiculously cynical, then just look at the notion of "Affordable Housing".....a few percent discount on an average (at the time) 360 thousand apartment is not "affordable housing" for anyone under 100 grand a year:
it was, however, a great means to by-pass planning regulations so that someone could make an awful lot of money for the development project in one of our many 'new ways of living' apartment developments (which now amounts to having a cardboard poster of a postman glued to the front doors so that it looks like someone is actually living in them)>

Yes, I agree that these posts shouldn't be in the "News" section either ... I am not "admining" any longer. It's up to the new moderators to keep the posts on the right track ;)
