Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Huge thanks to Discus-Killester for these fabulous Discus. Top guy. Here are some pics, they have settled in nicely
Hi doreilly,
Thanks for sharing pics with us!

I'm glad you're happy with the fish you got. It will take few days for discus to fully colour up, but they already look very happy. As they get bigger, their body will become completely blue.
Good luck with them, if you need any advice or anything else you know where to find me...
Cheers!

Hi all,
I sold 15 of my small discus today, and this guy just sent me a photo of them in his tank. Not fully coloured yet, but this is only 30 mins after they were introduced to their new home...
Same guy sent me a video, so I upload it :

Mine are doing really well. There is one who is now trying to dominate the tank and plenty of fighting and chasing going on.

I still have 10 for sale, and I'll keep few for my self, raise them to adults and try to get a breeding pair of them. It would be much better and easier to have breeding pair that was born and raised in Dublin water, that's my goal

I'm glad yours are doing well. There is always one

Are they growing up? Any new pics?
Thanks

What is your second new discus? Is it also a red pigeon? Did you find a pair? Brian
Hi Brian,
No, I didn’t find the breeding pair yet; I guess you have something for me?

Oh, it’s a funny story. My friend (he used to keep Discus) knows this guy that I got two Discus from (for free). He got his first tank about month ago (knows nothing about discus), second hand, with fish. After 20 days friend of mine went to see his tank and he saw those 2 discus. They were hiding for 20 days, not eating, barely alive… He called me, I tested the water etc… This guy said : This is a breeding pair (man who sold the tank told him…) I asked to take them, to buy them, to save them, he gave them for free (he said : I didn't see them in the tank anyway… He also said that he might ask me to bring them back one day, and I agreed) I have them for 10 days now, they just started eating properly 2-3 days ago.
Now, they are still not coloured up fully, pigeon is ok to identify, but the other one is just getting some colour and my first guess is Fire Red or Marlboro Red, but not sure yet…
First, I’ll try to get them healthy and in good shape, then I’ll see if they’re pair or not (probably not)…
They are still very nervous and scared, that's why I only took this one photo.
Thanks
Sina

I'm glad yours are doing well. There is always oneactually there is more than one, but usually one takes charge
but it shouldn't be a huge problem in your tank (it's big enough), and they're growing up together, it's usually a big problem for new fish... Plenty of fighting and chasing in my tank too, I have 3 (at the moment) that want to dominate (and once you move the bully away, there is another one to take charge), so chasing and spinning all day long
(like wheels on the bus, haha)...
Are they growing up? Any new pics?
Thanks
Hi Sina,
I'll get some pics of them up over the weekend

They have grown a litte since I got them from you but they are doing really well in the tank.
I am feeding them stendker beefheart, daphnia and tetra prima. I feed them once a day. Should I be feeding more then once a day? I'm doing 15% water change twice per week and they seem to be doing very well.
Thanks again for all the help and information.
Cheers,
Donal

Glad they're doing well

I would definitely feed more then once a day. I feed my fish 3-5 times a day in smaller portions, rather then once big. I feed them first time in the morning (usually something that doesn't need preparation-tetra prima, gran, discus prima etc...), lunch time and the evening (beefheart, bloodwoorms or again prima, gran...) If I'm home for weekend I feed them even more often, not more food, just every few hours.
You don't have to, if they are happy and healthy, but they'll grow faster and it's better for everybody's stomachs to have few meals a day, rather then one BIG

Talk to you soon.
Thanks
Sina

Hi Brian,
I hate it to.
Anyway, I got few photos today, what do you think is this Red Fire or?
This discus was completely colourless, now he's just getting some colour back, I guess it should be red with black edges

I PM you too, about breeding pair.
Anyone is welcome to identify those two

Thanks
