Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Newbie here,1st tank and its 500 litres.

Meh,who needs a TV anyway, when you have a fish tank to look at.

Sick and tired of watching absolute crap on the TV anyway.

P.S-TV is still there, just at the opposite end of the living room now.;)

Sorry just a thought obviously you have to cycle your tank have you considered asking on the forum if anybody has any medium that they might be able to provide you with help speed up the cycle process for you.

You know what, much and all that Id love to see fish in the tank right now,Im learning that taking our time and doing things slowly and correctly is actually turning out to be more interesting and fun and relaxing too.

Im not bothered about waiting 4 weeks for the tank to establish itself.Infact Im enjoying it.The plants and grasses have allready sent out some new shoots and roots too,so thats a good sign indeed.

I found myself just sitting and staring at the tank (in its current state) for ages this evening.Nice and relaxing indeed.:)

My girlfriend had to call me several times and allmost shout at me,for me to respond to her,I was that captivated by looking at the tank.

A chap who knows me,via this forum was asking me today about the Pro-Flora Co2 kit and what I thought of it

He was surprised to find out that the actual PH testing probe does not come with the kit,and this PH probe has to be bought seperately.

So just incase anyone is going to buy the Pro-Flora kit, also be aware that you also have to buy the underwater PH probe itself too.Its around 70 euro for the PH sensor probe.

Pic of PH sensor/probe.

Also bought a pond pump kit aswell today.

So its bye bye to endless slogging in and out of buckets of water each week.

This baby will empty and refill the tank while we sit back and relax. No more back ache either.

Ah its FAB guys! :) Rummy nose tetra go nice with Discus too. I love planted tanks(mines in tropical plants section) They're a living painting, always changing shape and colour,ya never get bored with a planted tank. Excellent job guys, wish you years of good luck and enjoyment from it. :) Aidan.

No mouth bigger than the smallest fish in tank.

Turned out rather well to be honest.

Bigger CO2 tank installed, this will last for 6-7 months now.

PH is at 6.6 and water temp is at 29 degrees C so its just perfect for the Discuss. :)

Currently theres 3 x Discuss,5 x Chain Loach,20 x Cardinal tetras,4 x Congo tetras and 3 x Bristle nose Plecs.

All are nice and happy in the tank. :)
