Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Cork/Munster club the 2nd was created by apistodiscus (apistodiscus)
Hi All,

I tried to get a fish club in the Cork/Munster region going before Christmas but only got two positive answers. However, there are quite a few new members from the Cork region on the forum now. Talked to Steve (Sushi) yesterday and he would also be very interested. Sort of a monthly get together. Could you please pm me if you are interested.
Cheers
Holger

I think it need to be Central to give everyone a chance say Llimerick or Wexford . that would give about an hour or two at the most driving. and not having to worry about the Dublin Traffic chaos type nightmare.

I'm open to suggestions as to where the meetings will take place. I'm prepared to drive a bit. One could also think about rotating the meeting venue. Say one month in Cork, one month in Limerick (preferably on a weekend when Munster are playing :D ), etc.

I think my old wreck would make it to Limerick; although if the fate of cars parked at Castleconnell is anything to go by it doesn't matter how old they are, they are still very likely to be broken into for contents!!!

For Russell and Wallry Limerick would still be at least 90 minutes away, I should think...for me - at the speed I drive - it's probably getting on for two hours; so Cork might just be a destination too far!

But it's a great idea to encompass the whole of Munster and have a point roughly half way (if such a place existed) to meet up, I would possibly need to leave the day before to ensure I was there on time though!

John,
leave the horsecart at home and try the vehicle with the engine in it
Limerick's just over an hours drive for me as well. If somebody from Limerick wants to organize a venue I'll be willing to drive

Hi Holgar

I think the best bet is to post in the news section those interested in a Munster club to post and then decide where a venue could be held that is reasonably acceptable to enable those interested to come

As I've said before Holger, I'm in. I wouldn't have a problem driving for an hour or so, afterall its only gonna be once a month or so, and anyone from around cork can pool spins if they want, so count me in.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

The only thing we need now is to get somebody to organise a venue in Limerick.
Steve, car pool would be a great idea. At least one of us could have a few :D

What kind of a venue do we want ? do we have a date in mind ?
I can ask a few people around that are from Limerick and see what is available.
Will be in touch shortly.
Kindest regards,
Valerie

Hi Valerie,
I don't mind which day of the week. I'm finishing work at 5pm Monday to Friday so if we were going to have a meeting during weekdays it would have to be after 7pm. I don't know about the others but Steve (Sushi) might have college until 6 some days.
Venue would probably be a room in a pub/GAA or rugby club.

So far, it seems to be the 5 of us ...

apistodiscus
russell
wallry
JohnH
Sushi

Apparently, The Locke Bar in Limerick (www.lockebar.com) has a small-ish side room which would suit such a group and is quite easy to find. I have sent them an email to check out the concept with them.

We should probably first decide on a date ... and sort the venue accordingly ...
Thu 05 Apr 07 @ 7:30pm ? or the following Thu? Any preferences/objections ?

Anybody else wants to join ? :D

Hi Valeria,
5. April is the Easter weekend. I'll be in West Cork and won't be able to make it. The weekend after sounds better to me.

@ Russel,
think you could get Tony Vaughan interested?

The Locke Bar seem agreeable with the concept and would book their back-bar for us, if available.
We need to confirm a date ... 12 April 2007 - 7:30pm - ok?

Does that suit ? who's coming ? who else would come if it were on another day?

Kindest regards,
Valerie

Sounds good, I can get a head start in Cissies then..... I can drive too so whichever suits you best, I'm fine either way. I'll be off drink then anyway for upcoming racing.

Hello all you Munster Fishkeepers!!!

I just wrote a letter to all the pet shops I could find names of between here and there...

Cashel,Thurles, Newcastle West, Ennis (but not the 'Precious' Pets - See Wallry's thread on this shop), Clonmel and Limerick.

Basically I just said we were having an inaugural get-together; when and where it was and contact details.

I added that for subsequent meetings we would give more notice.

You never know, we might just drum up a bit of extra interest?

John

perhaps I should have invited the AA in case of vehicular breakdown....?

Hi - Just a little update ...

I have spoken to Mark from the Locke Bar in Limerick (061 319217) and he has booked the top area of the back-bar for us on the 12th of April at 7:30pm.
He tells me this part of the bar should be an ok venue for our meeting (5-10 people).

Please note that I have never been to this establishment before and I hope that it will be ok ! Adventure, adventure!!!

Kindest regards,
Valerie

(PS we definitely need to work on the club name ... as not all of us are based in Munster! )
