Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

@ Sushi, Valerie, John and Russell,

sorry that I had to cancel last night. The kids were sick but trust me, I would have rather been in Limerick talking fish than seeing the kids having a puke-fest.
I have been in contact with Steve after the meeting, well, Valerie and himself, having a chat. Seemed a very productive one anyway. Steve and myself are going to put posters out there for next month's gathering. Hopefully a bit better attended than yesterdays. John, did the car pack it in?

@all,
Steve suggested to attach ourself to the ITFS, as the outside Dublin branch. I would have no objections to it but will need some guidance on the formalities and if the ITFS wants to us in the first place.

Hey, just for those who couldn't make it last night. We just discussed what we'd like from the society, as in what we hoped to set up. Mainly we just feel there is a need for a place to exchange ideas, experiences, advice, and anything else related i.e. fish/books/plants etc. among a group of like-minded people. We didnt decide on a name as there wasn't enough of the people there for us to speak for, but there's definitely call for another meeting in the near future, and hopefully it will be the start of something worth continuing, even if it does turn out to be a close knit small group, its a better starting point to promote and encourage the hobby than a lot of individuals each doing their own thing. So lets hope it gets off the ground....

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

Amen to that Steve, willing to chip in with whatever is needed.
Who's on the ITFS committee? We will need to discuss with them how best to intigrate our planned set-up with theirs.

Glad to hear that the meeting went well. Regarding talking to people about coordinating with the ITFS Goldy or platty should be able to send you in the right direction.

Lead me not into temptation, For I can find it myself!

Shall I suggest Thu the 17th of May for the next meeting ? Same time, same venue?
Did we get any feedback from the ITFS ?

Hi Valeria,
Sushi and myself are putting up posters in any fish/petshop in Cork. We got an answer from the ITFS. We need to discuss if we want to get associated with them or run our own thing. There could be financial implications we need to talk about. Furthermore we have not quite an offer but a definite suggestion of sponsorship if we ran our own thing. If you want any posters let me know and I will mail them up to you. Same goes for John and Russell. At present Steve and my phone number are on it if people have questions. I could put your numbers on it if you like.

Unfortunately if that meeting is on the 17th I wont be able to attend. I have 15 exams in May, joys of college, so am working my tail off at the moment. I know for definite I have exams on the 17th and 18th, but sure we'll see how things pan out, I'm sure I'm not needed there, and I'll make the following one for definite!!
