Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Cork/Munster club the 2nd

Who is Alfred E Neuman? Originating from a non-English speaking country, I am afraid I have missed out on a few classics !

That's him!!!

There was an American magazine called Mad and it was exactly that!
Actually it was rather silly, but that was a silly time anyway!

Alfred E. Neuman was the figurehead of the whole thing, he was something of a cult figure, actually now I come to try to remember the magazine I find I cannot really bring anything to mind at all about it apart from Alfred.

Sorry, perhaps Russell might remember more as he would have been in US around the time, I'd guess, I was still at school.

Hi John,
didn't you have MAD in the UK? We even had a German version and I can remember it and you're a good few years ahead of me. They stopped doing mad about 5 years agao I think.

The main club is south west Dublin, so any one from South of Dublin or like wise any one West, that could not be bothered to come to the ITFS in Harolds is hardly going to come to the North side. Any one from Dundalk to North Dublin more are morel likely to come to the Northsiders club.

That would be a ecumenical matter!!!

Sean,
It's less of a case of Couldn't be bothered going to Dublin it's the time taken journeying...

I'm two hours' drive from the M50 and then it gets really serious!!! :(

But, even if it only took two hours and the meeting went on until, say, 11pm, I wouldn't be back here much before 1am!

And for the lads in Cork that would be even longer before they got home.

Our plan is to just have a get-together with like-minded people once a month in Limerick, nothing more than that.

It goes without saying that any Dubs and people from 'Beyond the Pale' would be more than welcome, but the travelling issue would be just the same for them then...

No I think you misunder stood me or perhaps I did not write what I meant, if some one live one our north of Dublin, well yes I can see the benfit of going to a meeting in Collock instead of Harlads cross, but for any one that is with in driving distance round trip say max one hour west or south of Dublin, well if they could not be bothered to come to Ha rods Cross, well then they are unlikely going to but an adtional one hour more onto the journey cutting across Dublin to Collock area, hence if some some south or south west of Dublin wants to change the name of the north side club be cause they "might come?" bearing in mind they have not come to the "nearer" harold's cross meeting they are just putting a spanner in the works.

Ha.... Colock is nearer to Dublin airport than Harlots cross , why not call it the Palma an d north side club? See what I mean its all getting a bit silly.

That would be a ecumenical matter!!!

The developers are from Cork . the builders are a friend of the TD and his daughter works in the planning dep't. enough said
