Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ok sold up my 450 and South American stock and in my 240 is breeding juwels and 7 blood dragon fry.
So should I go mbuna and get rid of fry or get small hap and peacock fry?
Also what are the smallest species of haps and peacock?
Thanks for any advice offered

there is few what info are u after ?
ask away and we try help few people would have been keeping african cichlids in the past and would know a bit about them.
Just to give u a idea these fish dont grow to big and would be fine in 260L
when you look at my videos you see hugh fish but all the smaller ones are in and out of the rocks

Pseudotropheus sp. Elongatus Chewere
Pseudotropheus socolofi albino Snowflake
Aulonocara hansbaenschi stuartgranti red flash peacock
Flavus cichlids
red zebra cichlids
yellow labs cichlids
afra jalo reef

most of above will only grow to 6 inch max you might have a expectation on the red zebra
all the rest 4 to 5 inch

Ian might see this post and be able to help he has lot more experience and has a great store out in brittas

I just can't bare looking at the tank it's practically empty.Gonna go with peacocks and haps small ones not bothering with mbuna to much hassle. So am gonna go on the hunt for some less than 2 inches.

Both Seahorse Dublin
and
aquatic-village.
Brittas Can help

Ian is the lad to sort you out from aquatic village i see him on the forum more often than seahorse.
i sold everyone of my young fish and fry only for that i could help
any under 2 inch in my tank would not be worth the drive all mine are from 4 to 8 inch peacocks and haps
just be careful on your selection some peacocks don't agree and will fight all the time.
The haps grow quicker and will eat the smaller fish just to let you know. it can be case of trial and error.

It's kind of easier to manage a South American tank IMO as all fish are so aggressive they end up just not bother each other too much where a the Africans there is so many different types it can be tough
