Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Juwel T5 Lighting combination for malawi cichlids?

Hi folks, i have a vision 450 malawi setup and was just wondering what lighting combinations other people used.
I have the juwel blue acitinic tube at the front and the juwel colour tube at the back.
I imagined the colour tube would be a lot softer than it is, it seems very bright to me, i nearly thought it was one of their day tubes mislabeled.
I imagined their would be a pink/purple tinge off it.
Which juwel lighting combination do you guys with juwel tanks use?
Should mention that it is the twin tube T5 lighting unit i have.

Thanks for any replies..

I don't have a Juwel 450, but have a tank of a similar size. I use the Arcadia Original Tropical Lamp which I find brings out the colours great. My bulbs are T8, but you can get this tube in T5.

I tried an acitinic bule tube at the back of the tank, but it was over powering and made everything looked blue.

Have you tried only using one of the bulbs (if that's possible). I have four T8s on my tank, but only have two switched on otherwise it would be too bright.

Regards,

Ken.

Giesemann make a light tube called aquablue+. It is a crisp white light with a touch of blue. I would say this would look great over a Malawi tank.
The Arcadia Original Tropical Lamp Ken suggests is also a great natural looking light.

You could try Petstop or Wackers. They both sell Arcadia AFAIK.

As far as i am aware none of the shops over here sell Giesemann light tubes. Which is a shame because they make great light tubes.
You would have to send away for them on the net.

Ye i think i might try see if i can find them on the net.
Went lookin for the Arcadia Original Tropical Lamp and it looks like those particular ones aren't available in T5.
Did anyone ever get a light tube from the net before.
I wonder would you get it in one piece....

I have ordered light tubes online before because i couldn't find what i wanted locally.
No problems with breakages. The people sending them know how delicate they are so they are packed accordingly.
What size or wattage are you looking for? I might have some here i am finished with.
