Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Cheers Tim.
Here is the sump insulated with aeroboard to keep the heat in. The back and side of the main tank are insulated as well.

All the cash is goin into the setup of the tank. With a tank this size to kit it out is pricey enough and at Christmas with three kids squeezin the funds to death there might be ten yellow labs before Crimbo. Will take a while to stock this but that's the buzz eh. Mossy the carpenter might be callin on Wednesday to whack on the timber. This project will be goin for a while yet but can't wait to start stockin it. Have had no fish in the house for about 3 months so the fish itch is kickin in.

What you need is a good oul Fresh cod & chips.
Looking good so far Mick.
You must have every eventuality covered with all this time gone into the planning.
You'll have to put something aside for the bigger table she's going to want to match
the size of the tank.
The rock & sand and the blue go well as is, it'll be the business with yellow labs in too.

if you have the bacteria colony in there already i'd say you will need a fish in there to keep it alive so you dont have to deal with cycling it again. maybe a few guppies, you can always use them as feeders...

Would guppies be big enough? 1200 litres remember.

I use Safe start, way better than Cycle although I've heard the new formula is better than it was.

Off on a wee Tangent here but are there any Women out there that have to sneak, squeeze or otherwise Get "permission" to have Aquaria into their "shared" House. I've never read, I had to get it by the Husband or I have to get permission or if I get another Tank I'll be banned from the House. Always seems to be the Guys looking for permission in their own Houses or are Guys childlike forever and need to be kept in Line? You never hear, If you buy one more Handbag you'll have to decide which of the others go, or you can have either two small Purses or one big Hand bag but not both.

Just wondering.

I always find that a bit strange too... I can literally bring home any animal I want and Gill likes it... once I pay my half of the rent, bills and groceries, my money is mine and hers is hers!
Not only that but she looks after them when I am on away nights.

every so often she wants to do something in the house and will ask me what i think. even if i say not now wait til we have the money, she'll have it done by the time i get in from work. she has just changed all the light fittings in the apartment because when she got 2 5euro fittings for the hall and kitchen, i said i liked them. so she got more expensive ones for the rest, even though i cant meet the mortgage. and i have to explain myself if i want to spend part of the money i get from selling my smaller tanks to make the stand for the big tank safe. figures...

and i think yeah, we do like to be kept in line (cat flogged ;) )

Heard stories about fish getting stuck in the weir pipes so made a weir comb/teeth out of left over egg crate and extended it over the weir.

Also made a spray bar for the sunp as the flow was unreal coming down inch and a half pipes. The water flows in over all the sponge area as well.
