Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Sean,
I feed my discus with Stendker Good Heart which is a beefheart mix a couple of times a week.
I simply cut off a large enough frozen piece and let it defrost then cut it up and drop it in the tank in small chunks and the Discus do take it from there.

I agree defrost in a small cup and place in the tank i find if you feed too much a good school of corys will mop any leftovers up don't forget to mix it up. give a dry food a couple of times a week too

Sean,

I will check next time but I do not recall getting a smell from my beef heart mix or the tank water after a feed.
The dog does get interested when I start to cut it though.
Of course this could be down to the brand I am using Stendker Good Heart (Seahorse sell it.)
Stendker grow their Discus stocks using this product so I would not expect it to foul the water.
Are you making up a beef heart mix yourself. If so what is in it.

Sean,
I fed my Discus with Stendker Good Heart beefheart mix this evening.
When defrosted there is no smell from the product.
I put in chunks directly to the tank for the fish.
It does not last long in the tank and there is no fouling or clouding of the water.
I could give you some if you want to try it.
It is €16 for a pack in Seahorse and the pack will last me at least 4 months as I only feed it twice a week to the Discus.

greg that is the exact same shape and way i feed mine so i must be doing it right but i do know feed that much as in it doesnt be all around the tank like that and i dont let any uneatin in there for long

thanks for the offer but i think ill stick with wat i have as they seem to love it and i have a lot off it maybe the smell is just off wat is in the mix but if it is good for the fish and keeps them healthy then i dont mind it

they are gettin a feed each day off a mix off stuff like prima, terta crisps, bloodworm,Daphnia, and the mix off beefheart it is broken up within the week but they are gettin small feeds about 3 to 4 times a day and 40 to 45% water changes 2 times a week

have to say they seem great and i only have them a short while but i can see some growth on them already very active so thats a good sign thanks very much mate
