Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Wackers long mile have some stunning looking Discus in there, some of them must be 5 inches or more, they seem to have good shape and def have good colour,

I am no expert on discus or not even an amature but i might be worth a visit,

Mick

Hi Russell,
I don't have any wild ones in stock and haven't seen any on latest lists but you can let me know what you're looking for and i just might be able to help you.
As for wild Discus,i personally prefer staying away from them as they are often host to internal parasites and not as easy to acclimate than captive bred ones.
all d best.

Hi D

Have been keeping Wilds on & off since the late 50's, IMO they are easier to keep than the domestics. though almost impossible to breed!!!!! Where as domestics are a doddle. As for internel parasites I don't know where you get that from. anyone worth there salt treats them with Flubenzodol treats internal & external parasites!!!!!!

Hi Russell,
Thank you for answering.
Worked in tropical fish wholesaler for a while when i was kid and seen the time spent on wild Discus and the time spent on domestic ones...didn't give me a good impression on wild.
And even then i wasn't personally successful on domestics so gave them all up.For my defense i was about 15 years old and not that patient...
I got back into them only recently(about 15 years later that is),i have no problem with "domestic" ones anymore but haven't even given a try to wild ones again.
After reading your mail i just want to give it a go again
Now Green Tefe has always been my favourite and if i can put my hands on some of them,i will.
Thanks again and all the best.
D

Hi Russel,

Yeah still have 4 tefe's left 2 of your old ones and two of mine sold on some already , if your interested. I've tried and tried and tried to get them to pair up but no luck yet!!!! , They are so nice I'm not sure weither I want to let them go or not :( been up and down about it several times. But could do with the tank space only reason I was going to let them go want to try some geophagus I got recently. If you interested drop me a pm. They are still here anyway.

Cheers

Hi Allan

If you do decide to let them go let me know I will take them, but wont't be for a few weeks as just running in a new set up. have built an IN TANK sump!!! works great, but need to do a few more adjustments and let the filter mature.
Best regards
Russ.

Sure no problem they are yours if you want them , Let me know when you are ready then we can organise something. It'll break my heart letting them go! But sure they are really going home :) .
