Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I am just posting a couple of lines on this fish, as I keep getting similar questions from people who have taken some of the offspring about their requirements .
I originally bought my stock in england, from a guy who had a wild caught pair that spawned, he had 5 unsexed young 1cm total length for sale, I bought all 5, i lost one within a month or so of buying them, the other 4 fish grew well with no problems and ended up with a sex ratio of 1 male and 4 females .
I have kept these fish in a range of temps, from 23- 26+ degrees with no problems.,
the ph in their tanks has ranged from just under 6- 7.5
my water is naturally soft, so i have never kept them in hard water
tds of my water is approx 80 from the well but would be higher in some mature tanks
they can be kept as pairs or a male with a number of females
The décor of their tanks can be seen in the u-tube video I posted elsewhere on the forum, it consists of mostly, silica sand and caves made from bamboo, coconut etc. along with some wood, turf and a random selection of plants and moss.
The females started to show their spawning dress at quite a small size and my first spawning of the fish was interesting, the female spawned in the end section of a bamboo cave, it was only about 1 cm deep and not enough to even hide herself when she was turned sideways, this was repeated with subsequent spawns before they started to select the standard spawnig sites of apistos, ones like coconut caves etc. maybe it was just the females were young and inexperienced with their original site selections, the first spawns were small, 8-15 babies being produced, with about half the number eventually coming on to adult size, later spawns as the females grew were up to 40+ young.
the young grow fast and will accept any food that is small enough to fit in their mouths.
Mike Wise quote ''The luelingi are realtively easy and breed much like A. cacatuoides''
all the fish and fry are fed the same diet
tetra prima, tetra pro colour, blackworm flake, decapsulated brineshrimp eggs and live foods such as daphnia, blood worm, cyclops etc when available, frozen lobster eggs and also occasional feedings of other frozen foods.
only the female takes part in the rearing of the young, the male shows no interest and takes no part in the rearing.
the females abandon the young when they reachapprox 6-7 mill body length to spawn again and at this stage the young can be spotted forraging about themselves in the tank.

if i am missing anything please feel free to post and i will try answer
