Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

cheers lads, only realy got into them a few months back myself tbh

don't keep as much as i use to sean but i'm gettin back into it slowly but surely mate

i did think about breeding them but the space needed is huge mate, i've heard they are easy to breed but getting a pair is the hard part! you would need a big biotape pond to house a few and mimic their natural surroundings to even try for a pair so totaly beyond my means
aparently the 1 i got is captive bred...

just a bit of an update i supose, the giraffe cat and arowana never had a problem feeding and will feed on anything put in front of them from cichlid sticks/prima/bloodworm/krill etc. arowana has grown by about 2" since i got him and the giraffe about 1"+....
the rtc on the other hand has only recently started to shoot up because untill about 1 month ago i was trying to get him onto processed foods but all attempts ended in failure. he was starting to look the worse from this and got skinny, his lovely black overbody turned like a pinky colour so i thought enough was enough... since then i have been throwing in a bloodworm/krill mix(1 defrosted cube of each) at about 10 at night each night and he seems to be coming back to full recovery and starting to grow fast. he is back to his black colour and a nice full body.... but now its a case of over feeding :pinch: .. his belly is huge and he doesn't bother looking for food anymore so he's on a 2 day fast  and maybe then i'll only feed him his frozen food every 2nd day.... what a fantastic fish to watch though B)

cheers paul, my aro is now aprox 10" long so getting there quite fast, time to get a move on with the slightly larger tank build lol, realisticaly they've all outgrown their current tank anyways. i always liked oscars, their like big brutes, but hopefully the tiger shovelnose will be ok... haven't been in av in a little while now but afaik ians ones are maybe closer to 3" unless he got newer ones. they had paroon sharks the last day i was down there too but my younglad bought me 3 peacock bass instead. not too many people get bought things like this so i found it quite enchouraging to say the least  .... their in their own 4foot tank and fed up on bloodworm because its the only thing they'll take for me. i'm trying to get them onto pellets too but so far not so good.
keeps ye busy i tell ye

ps. seahorse have some 2" redtail catfish in at the moment ;)

i'd say you could be waiting quite a while for a giraffe cat to pop up in the for sale section tbh but i'm sure ian would order 1 in for ye :) his lima shovelnose are the dwarf variety so top out at maybe 2 foot.
what size is your arowana? i'll try get a pic of mine to put up but he's quite photogenic unfortunately..
