Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hey guys iv 4 bn plecos in my tank and would like to try at least breed them. 2 males and 2 females one of the females is quite large compared to the males and has her own cave in a ship in my tank but none of the plecos have taken over the other 2 caves in the tank preferring to hand around my filter or plants. The youngest of the plecos is 8 months old so im sure they are of breeding age. Iv tried bloodworms at night cucumber peas and algae wafers but still nothing . Iv a 3 foot by 2 and half foot by 1 foot community tank with regular water changes to try simulate rainy season

I'm may be up for correction here but I've heard tank bred bn
Will start breeding early at 12 months old,
So they maybe need some more time
Keep up your regime!

Paudie,
Your males might be being 'intimidated' by the size of your largest female, but my suggestion would be to leave the water changes for a week or so and gradually bring the temperature up to the low 80s.
Once the warmer temperature is established do a fairly big (30%) water change with considerably cooler water, this can - as with some Corys - trigger the spawning cycle.
If it doesn't then leave it a week or so then repeat the whole exercise.
Fish can be pretty fickle creatures and don't always spawn 'to order'.

Angle is right - your males might be still immature.

Can anyone make any other suggestions for Paudie?

I agree with both John and Angle.

Another factor can be the cave, sometimes moving the cave(s) to a new location can make them more interesting again.
