Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi guys. First thanks for having me here.
I would like to ask for some advice or someone to give me an idea about my L144 pleco pair. Yesterday i've noticed that the female laid the eggs inside the cave but the male threw sone of them out and kept a good few inside.
I did "fished"them out but i have no idea if they are ok or not.
I have them in a little platic bowl whit holes in it and close to the outlet from my external pump to give them some water flow.
This is their 4th time when they lay eggs, 1st and 2nd batch got eaten by my discus, i belive and managed to get the 3rd batch out and into a diy separator with an air stone and some wood.
Getting back to my eggs, would i have a chance to see any fry out of them?
I'm uploading a photo of the little fry that i have from them.
Also it's my first time when i have fry from any fish that i keep.
Thanks in advance.

Hi George, I think give them a couple of days and you should see if they are developing, they should be fairly visible if they are. Keep an eye out for some movement (wriggling). I've had Angels and Corys breed recently and it took a couple of days for them to show definite signs of development, the Angels in particular were tiny initially but grew quite quickly there after.
Hope this helps a bit. Probably take the time to set a breeding tank or somewhere to raise them if you can.

Thanks shane.
At the moment the pair is in a 80L tank. I took them out after the last batch and put them there as i want to get used with raising the young ones.
This morning i had a look at them and i've seen another egg kicked out.
On saying that i just hope that the ones he kicked out are good.
Any particular food for the little ones after the absorb the sack?
I have cucumber and novo tabs for the other ones.
Thanks

Hi George, I think I'd start prepping some infusoria, you could look at some of the commercial fry feeds, liquifry etc
Be curious to see what other people think/recommend?
Shane.

Thanks shane.
I'll wait and see if any will survive.
Last night only 2 eggs were left un the cave. I think by the time i'll get home those will be out as well. I counted 89 rescued in total, give or take. Is the first time that he does this.
I'll wait and see what will come out from those any,if any will hatch
