Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Replied by stretnik (stretnik) on topic Re: Mosquito Rasbora
FFF just got in some micros like them and Seahorse get them from time to time, crackers in a Planted Tank, preferring soft Water and breed easily but fry are, as you'd expect, tiny so feeding is the hardest part.

Have you a pic Christor ?

I added a shoal of harlequins to a new setup a couple of wks ago and I have to say (having never kept rasboras before) they are super fish. So lively and colourful in a shoal.

Cheers strenik, seen a lot of tetra versions aka the embers etc, well actually last i checked these were no longer classed as rasbora, cant remember the details

eugh never a fan of harlequins, they are very popular which may be half of it, hate seeing such a common variety as well as their colou, to me there are nicer?

Ok I have got a supply for Boraras Merah, which looking at them, are identical, if not a little less colourful, but otherwise seem to be very similar...so on that note, anyone even kept these?:)

either way theyll make a nice addition to the tank withmy cellestials

i like these little fella's . Was thinking of getting some . However are they very delicate and always hiding due to there tiny stature ? and do they like very soft water ?

From reading, they do come from very soft water areas, however you know yourself these could be captive bred as they supposedly breed very easy, but are endemic to their region, hard to call, my water isn't soft at all and I had these before just fine

If you get them, get a few, I only had 3 that came with a shipment of cherry shrimp, and they were fine but all the same a shoal would be better, they swim around the top too so dont really hide, but found if scared they'd go under a clump of duckweed.

What fish have you in with them?

A couple of months ago I bought 4 for my nano. They are very shy little things but they are great if you are building a community tank as they dont bother anyone.

When I finished my new tank and moved them out of there. A day later I noticed that I was missing 3 of them (I have the feeling they were sucked by my skimmer). I quickly modified the surface skimmer to prevent this from happening again so there is a piece of advice!

I bought 8 more yesterday as I was feeling sorry for megatron being all on his own. I knew that they dont become more active just by increasing their number however he seems more relax.

They are tiny... less than 1 cm probably, 2 of them are a bit bigger, probably a bit over 1 cm.

Some of them stick together but others tend to hover on their own, normally on weird places very close to the surface like on top of a leaf or beside the filter

From what I have read around 1.5-2 cm. They are the smallest fish I have seen on any shop so far, I am not saying that there arent smaller fish out there of course!
