Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Spawning or dying??

Ok this is my first experience of a fish spawning(I hope). One of the female Danio's was after getting quite large. then tonight she was missing from the group. I found her right in the middle of a cluster of plants near the bottom of the tank, not moving just sitting there. As im not familiar with spawning methods of danio's, is this common or is there something more serious wrong with her?

Cheers guys, Stuart.

(P.s)I hope its good news.

That doesn't sound good Stuart, unless you observed her being chased relentlessly which would mean she was avoiding males chasing her and is just tired, otherwise, she could be sick.

Well thats dissapointing. I managed to catch her in the net and had a good look. She had a patch of something on her back just behind her dorsal fin and it looked to be on her sides too also here tail looked to be frayed. It didn't look like any kind of fungus and i can't find anything on the net that looks the same.So just to be safe i took her out of the tank and had to euthanase the poor girl. I have checked all the others and none seem to be showing any of the same symtoms.Anyone any idea's what it might have been and should I dose the tank with medication now just incase?

Cheers Stuart.

Does it look like a Saddle, ie. over the back and going down two sides, behind the Dorsal Fin?
If so, it could be Neon tetra Disease or columnaris.

Not sure how long you have your danio for Stuart but their lifespan is not too long - just a few years. They normally develop an arched back in their latter stages of life which spells the end unfortunately. Due to their speedy nature they're normally first to the food and tend to eat way too much which does not do them any good. Don't treat the tank unless you see problems with the other fish in the tank.

Yes good man Kev just googled it now and thats it to a T.

They said there is no treatment or cure??It does not say if its infectious or not. All water perameters are good, but im gonna do a 25% water change in the morning anyway.Should i increase my water changes for a bit every second day maybe? or is there something else that i can do? lots of questions tonight I do appologise.

@DJK,I only have them a few months so i reckon they are between 6-9 months old.so should be awile before they need their pipe and slippers lol.

Cheers again, Stuart.

You should remove any Dead Fish as that'show the Disease is transferred by others eating the carcass.
