Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Looking for some help how i can fatten up one of my gt`s have em about 2mts. he`s about 2" and his belly is kinda sunk in a bit like a c shape underneath

He wont eat any pellets just spits them back out, he will eat flake food well, bloodworm's brine shrimp and will even have a bit of blanched lettuce but cant seem to get the weight on him, and i make sure he gets a bit of food 3 times a day, so im just wondering is their anything else that i might be able to give him.

Or should i put him in a tank on his own and kida over feed him on what he does eat, like every 2-3hrs. dont know if this is a good or bad thing to do

any ideas would be great
thanks lads

Hi Jeff,

Has the fish been like this for long?

Sounds like it could be a case of worms or other internal parasites. If the fish is eating and still not gaining weight, there is another problem. Would recommend observing the fish as often as possible and see if you can spot any fine red stringy looking things hanging from the fish’s anus, sounds gross i know, but the mature worms will do this in order to lay their eggs. If you do see these, then you will need to dose the tank with appropriate meds to get rid of the worms. If one fish has worms, it is quite likely that it will spread to the others in the tank. There is a possibility that the fish has internal parasites, in this case, you can usually tell by observing the fishes waste, it will be dramatically different from its tank mates, more stringy and white paler in colour. Again, there are several proprietary meds available to treat.

Cheers,

Bill

well i watched him basically all day and seen nothing not even a crap,
thought it was a bit mad i didn't see him do a no.2 i seen nearly all the other fish going

i did decide to treat the tank before rather than later with a worm treatment called KUSURI
new Wormer Plus Aquatic fish wormer, fluke and parasite killer.
and fed them frozen Brine shrimp with garlic 3 times.

will keep an eye on him 2moro see if i see anything
