Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm back keeping fish again!

Due to my hours being cut in my old job I had to sell my marine tank, I would never sell my two parrots!

Now I'm back keeping freshwater fish I have always been interested in setting up a small planted aquarium so I bought a 43LT AquaOne tank.

The tank is up & running 3 weeks now, I've used the Microbe-life special blend & nite-out 2 to cycle the tank

I used JBL AquaBasis & Manado as my substrate

The lighting I am using is a Betta LED tile its working quite well!

My plant stock is hemianthus callitrichoides in the left foreground,
Utricularia graminifolia in the right foreground
pogostemon helferi in the middle in front of the rock
cryptocoryne parva to the right & left of the rock
lilaeopsis brasiliensis in the right background
Eleocharis parvula in the left backround

I was thinking of removing the lilaeopsis brasiliensis & the cryptocoryne parva altogether & just letting the graminifolia & hemianthus callitrichoides carpet the whole front of the tank up to the rock & moving the helferi to the background with the parvula but I'm not sure what to do

My fish stock is:
6 corydoras habrosus
2 sparklnig gourami's
2 scarlet badis

Shrimps:
2 Yamatoa shrimp
8 cherry shrimp

I want to put a shoal of either celestial pearl danios or boraras brigittae into it too but I can't choose which!

Anyways here is the tank let me know what you all think B)

Also any idea's on how to remove that pesky algae growing on the pants?
I'm hoping the shrimp can tackle it

Tank looks cool man.

I set up a small planted tank awhile ago and i found i had the same problem as you with algae growth so i got my self some Oto's and the kept the algae back they are also a cool little fish to keep they don't get to big like the Pleco's so they are ideal to keep in a smaller set up.

Regards,
Stephen

Nice setup Stephen very cool indeed ;)

about the algae problem you allready have shrimps and gouramis that for shure will handle most of it, allthout they might not eat all the types of algae, so defenetly a "catfish" would be a very good addition to the tank a pleco or a suckermouth would be the best choices.

Congratz for the tank ;)

Hey Stephen, I like the tank and nice choice of fish. I recently added some badis to my tank and I love them, great little fish! I'd go with a good shoal of the boraras if I had to choose. Keep the pics comin and best o luck!
