Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Prehistoric Monster Fish Eggs

So, I came in from Work earlier and noticed that the Prehistoric Monster Fish (Thalassophryne amazonica) had released a load of Eggs, I say a load but it was only maybe 7 or so, surprisingly big, about 6 mm or so.
It's cool that the Eggs where released, I suppose it means I know now that it's a Female and Females apparently grow significantly bigger than Males + after doing a bit of reading/snooping about on the Net, It seems to be a bit of a rare occurrence in captivity.
still It's just a pity that the Eggs will obviously never be fertilised due to the fact that She is on Her own in the Tank, I'd love if I had a Pair but it would be difficult...
I noticed a while later that all but 1 of the Eggs where gone, maybe She ate them or something, who's knows ?
So I said I'd take a few Pix before they're all gone...

cheers

I'd be doing well, hard fish to come by, expensive too, usually around €75 if memory serves, that's if Your lucky enough to find one for sale, also She was about one fifth the size She is now when I got Her, I have Her at least four years, Plus given their feeding habbits etc. etc., I'd imagine it would be a very difficult Fish to Breed but in saying that, I'll still keep an Eye open for a potential Partner...

if you find a mate for her, here's hoping he goes for personality... cos that's a face for radio. As Podge and Rodge would say "I wouldn't ride her into battle!"

Wow this is really cool.

Don't listen to the others, she is a beauty! :silly:

Would be great if you could find a male for her, as long as she's not a cannibal and he's too small. Like you said it would probably be extremely hard to breed them anyway but worth a try i.m.o. I can't find any account of them being bred in the aquarium.

Hey Derek
How are Ya getting on ?

I'd be very fond of ould mrs jabba, I have Her a long time now
She'd be about 5", huge by comparison to when I first got Her
I'd love to try get Her Breeding but I think it would be a real achievment just to sucessfully find Her a suitable Mate...
I'll definitely keep an Eye open

very interesting fish, amazing feeding habits, lightning fast, amazing when You think that 99.9% of its time is spent void of any movement...

cheers
